Fresh 102.7 needs more Notable DJ's!!

how about bill buckner, steven e roy, jj kennedy

That makes perfect sense...in the bizzaro world, maybe! Have you listened to the station? They're all about how they're not playing the sleepy old music played on the "Lite" station. Why would they bring in jocks who were so closely associated with that format?

Bizzaro, indeed!

OK, Prescott, why?

The DJs are minimized on FRESH at best and LITE is the target.

Of course, it may be that Martini needs a new "Billy" to replace Bill Lee who went to CBS-FM - so there's Buckner's shot.

They seem to be doing fine without. And, the average listener at this point, apparently, does not care.

The "they GOTTA have DJs" campaign is 100% run by insecure jocks. Radio listeners are not protesting in the streets because Fresh 102. doesn't have a bunch of big-name jocks.

People that listen to the station should be glad they tell you updates. Weather, news, time, etc. At least CBS didn't do how they did Jack FM when it was on 101.1 without the weather, news, time updates. Another thing with the djs on Fresh they don't want djs who talk and talk. Like they said when the first came on the air. Which is a plus as people want music more then talk.

I may be a little naive on this point, but what is the big deal about giving the time and temp? I know I have not worked in radio in many years but I was always told to give the time every time I opened the mike, and time and temp after every song when I would do AM drive. What has changed so drastically over the years that it is now a crime to give the time or temp. anytime after morning drive? Isn't radios job to inform as well as entertain? (I know that people who are going to find fault with everything that CBS-FM is doing are going to cringe over this) CBS-FM gives frequent time checks during the day and weather updates at 20 minutes past the hour, what is so wrong with that?

I didn't know that time & temperature were "taboo" in the radio world. I welcome it. And yes, Mr. G. 's frequent forecast on CBS is the "norm". Even though I have found fault with them over their format that aspect has never bothered me.

Who said it was taboo? But doing it "because we've always done it" is a little dumb, too. There are radio stations people purposely tune into for news/info/ weather and others specializing in music. Just because "time & temp" were drilled into us doesn't mean it's still necessarily appropriate for every station. This has nothing to do with "shutting jocks up" or radio being cheap- it all has to do with fulfilling listener expectation. How necessary are time checks in middays and nights on a music-intensive station? Or token weather forecasts? I suppose if you have little talent or motivation and it's the only thing you know how to talk about, it's important. But to most listeners of those stations, it's not that vital.

I think temps fine. But maybe not time so much. As you have a clock on your radio in your car and at home sure on the wall or on your clock radio. And sure time is good during the morning show to help get people ready for work, school, etc. So I guess they are both fine. :)

I thought that I had read somewhere on another thread that jocks should not be giving the time so much during the day, perhaps I was mistaken, but thanks for answering my question. The reason I brought it up in the first place, I have relocated to the New England area, and the Providence & Boston stations that I listen to never give time checks after the morning shows. Perhaps the stations that I am listening to are voice tracked after morning drive so that could be the reason. As a native New Yorker, I have been listening to CBS-FM on the internet since the flip and have been enjoying the personality of the station, something that is lacking in the Providence & Boston markets during mid-day, (except for WODS - Boston) and I like hearing the weather forecast once an hour, but maybe it is just a preference thing for me so I can know what the weather is like back home. Again living up here I don't have the time to sample all N.Y. stations via the internet so maybe it is just the stations up here that have made it taboo. Thanks again for answering my question.

Please don't mistake "giving time & temp" with stations having PERSONALITY. One has nothing to do with the other. ;D
