Fresh Catch with Jed The Fish: New Show on KCSN

Skyboyrox said:
Been a while since I responded. We spoke to some Indie personalities, and dialogue continues with some. I would hire Jed The Fish in a heartbeat, he is a personal friend and I think he is the penultimate alternative jock--but these are volunteer positions--and a number of personalities want paid (understandably).

Well, it's become a reality - from the www.KCSN.org home page:

Fresh Catch With Jed The Fish
KCSN is proud to welcome the newest member of our on-air family: the legendary Jed The Fish!

KCSN Program Director, Sky Daniels, exclaims, “Jed is a true icon in radio—NO air personality will ever match his 30+ year legacy at KROQ, most of it spent in prime time afternoon drive. It is an unheard of feat for a personality to remain so relevant in the Alternative format for 3 plus decades. Jed has done so because of his passion for music, his unique ability to communicate, and his sensitivity to artists and their art. Jed has long expressed a desire to create unique programming that melds Alternative with other genres of music in a unique blend—he has found the home to do so at KCSN.”

KCSN General Manager, Karen Kearns, adds, “Our Saturday line up is now complete. We have united a unique team of L.A. radio artists to curate your Saturday music.”

Jed will be hosting Saturdays from 1-3PM (Pacific Time), which we are dubbing “Fresh Catch With Jed The Fish”.

That's great. Jed is a pro. However, KCSN's signal is far from pro performing. Ain't no way in hell that flea flicker is going to get into LBC.

I do like what KCSN is doing. I don't like that their signal makes them the best kept secret in town.

And what if KCRW decides that it's silly to compete with KPCC and drops the NPR drive time news shows and the other afternoon news-talk shows to go 24/7 AAA? With Ruth Seymour long gone, I think it could happen--and I don't see Sky being able to compete with them.

We are fortunate that talent the caliber of Jed, Nic Harcourt, Mark (aka Mr. Shovel--the MD at Indie 103 for all you Indie fans) Sovel, etc, want to be at KCSN.

As for the signal, look for a strong increase across the LA basin in the next month. Also count on us to KEEP expanding the signal--soon.

Want to help us be more than 'the best kept secret"? Please marshall your social networking powers and evangelize. We are counting on those who like us to let their friends know about 88.5 KCSN www.kcsn.org

Has there been any discussions with Saddleback College's KSBR about a possible simulcast to cover the Orange County/some Los Angeles area?

I have heard that KCRW doesn't do as well in their music shifts, and a majority of their donations come from news/talk listeners. I don't think this is going to happen.

Idea: KCSN On Demand - archive for shows like Fresh Catch with Jed The Fish

Sky....Is it possible to start having some of these shows archived? I have evangelized the station, and would be happy to for specific shows, such as Fresh Catch, if I could point people to where they can listen to it On Demand.

Some, but not all, of the weekend shows are archived, but they are a bit hard to find on the website. Go to the schedule and click on the show block you are interested in and it will take you to that show's specific page. If that show is archived, it will pop up, if not, it is not referenced. I have listened to a few of the Hilburn shows this way - although there must be some digital rights issues involved because not all of the songs played on the radio end up on the archived version, so the show can sound disjointed at times.

Does this mean Jed is no longer at KROQ? How long has that been the case?

Is he doing any other stuff to pay the bills? (is that syndicated 'Out Of Order' show still airing nationally?)

KCSN is mainly volunteer, no?
