Fresh Flipping?

Or just a April Fools Day joke? Right now they are playing a loop of the word "when". My car radio identifies the station as Now. Now, the name of the new CHR in NYC, seems to be an appropriate answer to the question "when?". Anyone know anything?

If it's an April Fool's prank, I can't see how there could be a payoff. If it is a 4/1 prank, they should have considered pulling down the 1027freshfm web content and have the homepage say "When?........ SOON!" Leaving the current website in tact is only confusing to listeners who are trying to make heads or tails of this.

If it is flipping to NOW, I'd think they would wanna run a long commercial free song marathon with no jocks, but doubt that they can afford do to that with the state of the cluster and today's economy.

KMXB and KSNE dodged the last 102.7 BB gun. Why would this be any different with KSNE replaced by KLUC in their sights?

Should be interesting....... ???

Just looked at ratings for LV on-line. I should have included KVEG in my last posting. Both KVEG and KLUC are listed as Top 40/R. Between these two stations and KMXB, a HOT A/C, that in my opinion leans for Top 40/M, the three sticks tie up around 15 shares 12+.

This would be an uphill climb for the owners of 102.7, but if they have a war che$t (a big war CHE$T) it could be a battle worth entering.

Several years ago a station here in my town of Fresno actually did change formats on April 1 .KTHT 102.7 wentfrom A/C to ALICE KALZ a Hot Modern A/C.
2 weeks ago LOTUS did a countdown to a format change much like a NASA contdown like T- 23 hours and 39 min and 22 sec and counting. They became KHIT 107.1 a classic hits format.

Maybe their machine broke?

[20 years ago when I was in college, well maybe 17, 102 Jamz in Greensboro did a stunt where their "Jamz machine broke" and the station just said "Jamz Jamz Jamz Jamz Jamz" for 24 hours. Some people IN THE BROADCASTING INDUSTRY AT THE TIME were convinced it was just a mechanical breakdown and would be fixed soon. ROFLMBOPIMP ]

Another April Fools format change in Fresno took place in 1990. 95.7 KYNO-FM switched from Top 40 to Classic Rock KJFX-The FOX. Here it is 19 years latter and they are still in the format today. They are doing pretty decent considering they are being attacked from every direction in that overradioed market.

First off if this is just an April Fools prank the joke is on them...Beasley will be stuck with FRESH.

Sean Lynch has extensive CHR experience. I always thought from the moment he arrived at BBGLV that there was a chance one of the stations would flip to Top 40.

If this station is like NOW/New York they will be going straight up against KLUC. KVEG will not be hurt as bad because they are more of a hip hop station.

If they don't play pop-rock such as The Fray (Now/NY doesn't touch that stuff) KMXB (along with KSNE) will gain displaced FRESH listeners (the relatively few that exist). If they do play pop-rock it will hurt MIX.

Another station that could be impacted would be KPLV. PARTY has syndicated CHR type shows in AM and PM drive, their music is hotter than it used to be and they just entered into the top 10 18-34 in the most recent trend. Having a new Top 40 in the market will make things awfully crowded on the young end.

Finally I'll throw in a wild card and guess a totally different format they might switch to...News Talk KDWN-FM. FM Talk is a hot format to flip to right now. It's getting results too, the one FM talker that was underpreforming, KTLK/Minneapolis, had an excellent trend yesterday. Most of them do well right out of the gate with demos AM stations can only dream about.

I still think KXNT would have more potential on FM than KDWN would. The syndicated lineup on KDWN is not as strong, although I think Savage would do great on FM. Jerry Doyle might have potential too, he is #1 in Providence on an AM station. The weekend wall of infomercials KDWN plays would have to go (or stay on AM only).

I forgot about that one KJFX the Fox is still doing well with Bob and Tom in the morning, JACK-FM 105.9 KFJK last week switch to KMJ-FM. with a separate news talk format than there AM.LOTUS started a classic rock station at 105.1 KKBZ the BLAZE with more 80s and 90s HEAVY METAL last summer and has brought all rock stations numbers down especially KRZR. This station gets better every ratings period. Las Vegas DJ Carlota was doing double duty DJing the 10-3 spot on THE BLAZE.

50kw news/talk KRMG Tulsa is the latest to begin simulcasting on FM.

KDWN-FM would certainly do better than they're doing on AM and would also do better than Fresh. And it would free up 720 to go all infomercials. Maybe they could bring back Part Time Pete to do open phones in unsold time!

I think that would have been a great idea six months ago, before KDWN obliterated its news department. And you're right, the programming is much too weak. Doyle, Miller, Masters and infomercials? I do agree that KXNT-FM would do some big numbers.

My question is, if they do flip to a Top 40 format, does Beasley LV have the air talent in the building to pull it off? Because I don't think that, especially in today's economy, they can't afford to go out and pay for good new talent.

I see they've finally updated the website with a teaser page....but when you click on the stream, the player is still logoed with Fresh 102.7. Beasley appears to be doing this swithch half-ass just like everything else they do. Maybe the question they are asking is WHEN will Beasley become a competent operation?

NOW, this is funny ;D

The trades have already reported that KFRH will become 102.7 NOW-FM and be a Top 40. BUT, the station is still broadcasting the annoying teaser loop. "When, when, when, when, when, SOON!"

OK, found the press release. They flip it at 5pm PST.

NOW, how funny would it be if KLUC (CBS) decided to grab the name NOW. In a battle for brand, cume always wins!

What I don't get is that they are stopping the "When" loop to play spots. Will the clients still get charged for spots that played during this stunt?

If the advertisers get their bills and weren't aware of the stunting, they'll probably pay the bill. I wouldn't want to be in sales there today. I am sure there are many angry clients who have heard the stunting along with their commercial announcments.

WHEN!?!??!?!?!??

LOL. This is a good stunt. I can't wait to hear what the legal is.

I can already imagine it.

KFRH Boulder City, Las Vegas.

WHEN!

I just hope they run commercial free, but considering they're still running spots, I'm going to say no. Let's also hope they have the playlist together and can sound better than NYC's NOW.

They have alot of work to do if they plan to have the website up in two hours. There's all kinds of old fresh content still on the site, etc.

I clicked on listen now and the stream still plays fresh music. Why would they generate a log if they knew they were going to flip today? I am still thinking (just a little) that this all could be a an elaborate prank.
