Fresh start and other 2012 predictions?

That's funny...that description of Cox's show makes it sound much closer to a Stern-type show than Rover's show is. Stern spends far more time on politics/religion/current events than T&A. At least since the late 90s, he has.
For what it's worth - I've been a Stern listener since 1992, I love Cox's show and can't listen to Rover for more than 5 minutes.
What about WDLW/WOBL. "Cool Cat Oldies" is cool to me and I would hope that if radio stations on 1380 had to leave the air, they would be ones that are in the way of WDLW getting a much deserved power increase.
As for WEOL, they have a dynamic local content first morning show hosted by longtime pros Craig Adams and Bruce Van Dyke. They do both serious interviews and light comedy that keeps things fresh. Craig's dead-pan comedic skills coupled with Bruce's wit play off eachother very well. One of Bruce's classic lines came when they were talking about movies and Craig mentioned a movie title that had actor Jim Caveizel in it. Before Craig could say who was in the movie, Bruce jumped in with, "Oh, Jesus was in that!"... referring to Jim playing Jesus in "The Passion of The Christ". An hilarious moment. Just a few days ago they, seemingly jokingly, were referring to the station as "your Christmas station", but then got sidetracked into talking about Professional Wrestling. They were running through big names from the past. Just hearing Craig mentioning the names Bobo Brazil and Moose Cholak while holding back laughter was, in itself, funny. On the serious side, some months ago they did an interview with a lady who was in the twin towers on 9/11. It was deep and handled expertly.

The biggest problem for WEOL is, outside of losing their FM sister station, ELBC's parent company (The Lorain County Printing & Publishing Co.) is bleeding money holding on to the Elyria Chronicle and Medina Gazette. And Lorain County is a two-newspaper area - the Chronicle has always competed with the Lorain Morning Journal for readership around the county. Recall that back in 2009, the Chronicle and Gazette merged most of their operations at the main C-T offices, including publishing, editorial and some reporter duties.
It may not be WEOL that shuts down... but when do the Chronicle and Gazette finally fold into one paper? And would it be enough to save the company?
That alone - along with WNWV's ratings/revenue issues since 2008 - are really the main reasons why WEOL is in the minimalist state it is in. Bruce and Craig do make a good team, and they are both very nice people. But it's a shame that the station has literally no other local output except for high school sports coverage, and Craig has no news department to work with.

Anyone else notice that 102.1 is not using the heritage WDOK calls or the Soft Rock imaging...just calling themselves Christmas 102.1? Could a post holiday switch (perhaps to Fresh?) be in the offing for 2012? Consider this move a possibility as sister Q104 is moving into a more CHR direction, and WDOK's demos have to be aging? This was done last year in Detroit with WNIC (which moved to Fresh) and in Cleveland where 106.5 flipped from Mix to Lake, while playing essentially the same music.
My other thoughts...I see 92.3 staying sports, but revising lineup in the face of continued low ratings. No switch to 98.5 UNLESS sports rights are acquired, or the ratings start bumping up.
107.3...no idea what the format hole is for a one station operation, but my bet is on Rubber City taking it back to the WAVE/soft AC format...which would be a hole in the market if 102.1 moves in a Fresh direction. Or, they do a much tighter AAA format under adult supervision.
