Friday 5/22/09 - M.A.B. "Same Day"

if you didn't get the AP note - Friday 5/22/09 is the Maine Assn of Broadcasters "Same Day" for capturing your "best" for submission for annual MAB award consideration. if you're taking part, have a great show!

I bet submissions will be minimal. Talk to anyone at the MAB in the fall...and I bet they'll tell you submissions "are at an all-time low." I've heard through the grapevine that there many not even be an awards banquet this fall.

Why low submissions?

1) There aren't that many live shows left. (And most shows that still exist SUCK because most of the talented jocks left the business over the last few years)

2) Those who are live are too busy (or burnt out) to put together a submission because they have one or two other daily shows to voice track...tons of production...promotions...toilets to clean...etc.

Who has time (or the desire) to celebrate? I know it's negative...but it's the truth.

As an addendum to 2)---they have to get to the part-time job they have.

True Grit is right on! Most morning jocks I know in the Bangor/Portland markets have at least one other part time job! How sad is that??

Last year, I read in R&R that the "average" salary of a large market morning jock/team is between 4 and 5% of the overall station revenue. (A station that bills 2 million a year would pay the morning jock 100K...or 50k for a team.)

Well...we know that IS NOT the formula that is set for Maine, that's for sure!!
