Friday FM E-SKip in Hudson Valley

Another E-SKip opening brought some interesting FM DX to the Hudson Valley Friday evening. Five good new catches added to the log book.

WJSP-88.1 Warm Springs, GA NPR with Georgia news at 6:05pm. 855 miles. Only station from this region heard this evening. The Georgia Public Broadcasting website http://www.gpb.org/public/radio/ has a nice state map showing coverage of all the GPB stations…. and interestingly, the state’s major city, Atlanta, is NOT covered by any of them.

WTBX-93.9 Hibbing, MN spot break including promo for Back Yard Bar-B-Q and call letter mention at 6:52pm. 1015 miles.

WIRN-92.5 Buhl, MN NPR / Minnesota Public Radio at 7:05pm. 1007 miles.

WDAY-93.7 Fargo, ND in/out for quite a while with “Most Requested” countdown, at 7:21pm, for State #34!! 1202 miles.

KDVL-102.5 Devils Lake, ND “Cruiser 102” with oldies with ID at exactly 8:00pm at end of Stevie Wonder record. 1293 miles.

Total 99 new total FM loggings this season.

Also noted:
Probable CIWM-91.5 MB, previously logged.
KBRX-102.9 noted at 7:39pm, previously logged in May.
Also, possible CBQX-98.7 ON at 7:29pm. Woman mentioning CBC and CBC website, but didn’t hear much else. Not enough to count.

Generally, signals were on the weak side for this opening… not a lot were strong enough to break through all the locals / semi-locals / regulars that fill up the dial.

It's getting late in the E-Skip season, but could there be more FM DX this weekend? I’ll be listening!!
______________

90.1 WABE and PBS TV station WPBA-30, operated independently from GPB, cover the Atlanta area. AFAIK, they existed before GPB was founded to serve the rural parts of the state.

Thanks for the info. That makes sense. New York and Pennsylvania are among the apparent minority of states that do not have a state public broacasting system. Although, here in Eastern NY we have the WAMC network.... that serves the same purpose for just a small part of the state. Local affiliate is WAMK-90.9, Kingston.
______________
