Friday Night Six Pack (80's-era KUPD)

This isn't Google-able, so I've gotta ask here: Where can I find a some sort of list of the albums played on the Friday Night Six Pack? I remember taping some Lou Reed album, but I forgot what else.

I worked there back then. In fact that was one of my first shifts there after being hired. This was before Music Master, Selector, and any kind of Scheduling Software. J. David or Curtiss Johnson would just hand me a piece of paper with 6 albums to play in their entirety. Some would be on CD, some would be on LP, and some would be on cart, with edited versions. At the end of the night (er early morning) we would just throw the piece of paper away. So I doubt anywhere there is a record of anything we played back then. We were on the clock/category card system back then musically. We actually got to pick the music we played back then, within certain parameters of course. And of course we didn't have promo suite back then either.. we had a list of cards in a packet that had promos, psa's, announcements in it, and we had to initial back of card when we were done talking about it. I am sure ALL those cards are thrown away too. That was the only other place I ever remember seeing the lists written down was on a promo card for the Friday Night Six Pack.
Of course that was three Program Directors ago, and before Sandusky took over from Norris and the Meltons.
In most worlds three PD's ago, was just a couple years ago.. gotta admit.. pretty impressed that since Curtiss Johnson left, they have only had two PD's since.. JJ Jeffries and Larry McFeelie. And Curtiss left in early 90's.

Y'know... Reading about the index cards for PSA's etc. and how KUPD just put a list of albums on a sheet of paper made me nostalgic. Sure, Selector and all the computer tools serve a purpose, but we all seemed to do alright with more of the human element plugged into radio.

I've read that US Navy submarines could be largely automated but aren't so that they can ensure humans have a mesaure of control over the boat. I know I'm spitting into the wind, but the listeners can't tell if you picked music off Selector or Prophet or by a note on the back of your hand. Radio stations should have some soul, but those days are gone.

Don't mean to hijack the thread. KUPD is a great radio station and it would be nice if the old Six Pack lists could be dug up somehow....

Hmmm...seems to be the "love of music" school of formatting.

Yeah, ahem, the "good old daze" once again. ;D

Inderadioguy: Might be able to find listings (by sales) of alums back in the time frame you're interested in (80s, 70s...)

On a (marginally) related note, try here for the Tucson version of KUPD...KWFM in the 70s and 80s, as some did manage to save playlists & such from this classic station: http://las-solanas.com/kwfm/home.php

Enjoy!

Won't be much into the '80s: If memory still serves, KWFM switched format to AC in late 1981. Then-KTKT-FM (96.1--now KLPX) had become the ratings-dominant AOR station by that time, after debuting on July 4, 1979.
KWFM's sudden switch from AOR to AC was the first step in their long, sad downward spiral to today's AM also-ran, garbage-sounding, canned 'COOL 1450' oblivion. Still officially KWFM.

Yo, KT...I wouldn't count on a voicetracked Christmas holiday card from Alan Michaels! ;D

Parma's post only gave a glimmer of a time period. You're right about KWFM's demise; I had those dates slightly skewed in my brain at the time.

Just wanted to offer a (potential) data source from a similar era; there was some degree of crossover, maybe not much.
