"Friedo" Leaves The Ticket

Seems like a downgrade really. On the surface it is a lateral move, but if you consider the stations, seniority and the rest, it really is a step down.

I have to speculate it has to do with Norm Hitzges being a major pain to work for as a producer as he was doing a ton of stuff that he really should have not have had to do as a producer.

I don't know who they will find to produce the show. Perhaps ESPN wooed him with a lot more money, otherwise the move, outside of hating his producing part of the job, makes no sense.

I wish Mark well, as working for norm can be tedious. Im thinking it was one of those mutual "dutch" deals, seeing cumulus is trying to tighten up the belt and norm is probably going to totally retire this year anyways

It's a good move for Mark. As a long-term asst. p.d./producer at 1310 he would be an easy target for another cost-cutting move. Disney/ESPN hasn't been doing that and hitching his horse to Irvin should bode well for his future.

As mentioned APD's are and have been easy targets for Cumulus cost cutters. Especially ones that only produce a two hour broadcast. I think Mark's making a good move. Where is there to go if he stayed with the Ticket? Unless Jeff Catlin leaves there's no chance for him to advance at the Ticket. Norm may choose to retire or Cumulus may choose to not renew his contract so why not make the jump. Also if you look at Friedo's resume it's all with one company. A powerhouse Sports talker but still only one company, one full time host. ESPN is pretty stable, not firing people in droves, is a large organization that has room for advancement at other ESPN stations. All in all I think he made a good career move.

For you guys speculating that Norm being a pain to work as a driving force behind this move: If that were really true, why is he just now leaving?

So another guy that lost a lot of weight leaves the little Ticket. Makes 1310 the Biggest Loser on radio. Does he move over to ESPN to be the Greggo wrangler?

Seem to recall a certain Dan Bennett producing Norm's show back in the day on KLIF. Might be a good move by Friedo.

A wise career move. Just that simple. P.S. - Norm is quirky to work for, but a very nice human being. No issues between Norm and Fall Friedo.

Dan was the co-host and ran the board for Norm. I can't remember Norm's first producer, but I know at one time Dewayne Dancer was Norm's producer.

From what people who work there tell me once he gets a Dose of working for Pete Dits he will wish he had never taken the job.....The Last APD guy lasted just a few months and left telling friends he couldn't work for Pete.
