Friend of 70's Radio Passes

I am making this post for Cap and his crew from NOE-FM from the 70's to let them and all who visited Acy's Pool Hall during those years or attended parties there thrown by various artists including Bruce Springsteen, Journey, etc... My father and the Manager of Acy's, Sal Marchese, Jr. passed away today after a 17 day battle in the hospital. He was especially proud of his accomplishments in putting on those events, and his subsequent years in Law Enforcement including time with the Hancock County Sheriff's Office. Please check the Times-Picayune in the coming days for arrangements, and thanks to those who offered prayers, especially my co-workers at WGSO.

Sorry to hear about the passing of your dad. What years did he work for the Hancock County Sheriff's Office? Still know a couple of folks over there and will let them know about it.

He had just recently returned to the department after an injury he sustained working in another job. He was working as a bailiff in the courthouse, and was happy to be back working. The Memorial Service will be Thursday July 28 at Pearl Hickory Baptist Church on Hwy 41 just west of Pearl River, LA at 3pm. A donation drive has been set up by the church, to help pay for the service and to help pay for completing a house that my dad and stepmom are trying to build to replace their home that had gotten washed away by Hurricane Katrina. Contact the pastor, Brother Pat for info.

Hi Johnny,

My condolences too upon the loss of your father. He was a good man and certainly in tune with the music and fun of those days, and he knew how to throw a good time at Acy's. He will be in my prayers.

By the way, are you any relation to Mr. Marchese at Fulco's who used to organize the St. Patrick parade?

Bob Walker

Johnny, met your pop--and probably you, too--back in '76 or '77. Dropped a line on WNOE-FM, out of a Springsteen song, "Bruce says he hopes if he's a good boy, doesn't mess anyone over, and says his prayers every night, when he dies, he'll go to Acy's Pool Hall." Next day,
get a call on the business line, from a gravel-voiced person who said "the owner of Acy's would like for you to come by and talk to him."
Holy bird droppings, Batperson! Didn't know if I'd come out of there alive, much less able to do that afternoon's show. Turned out, he'd
heard about it, loved it, and even comp'd me a coupla y'all's world-class roast beef po-boys. His po-boys were #1, his place was #1,
HE was #1. My condolences to you and your family on all OUR loss.
Soxless.

Soxless, I met you a couple of times, and I was the one Cap almost hired to do weekends, I say almost because Country changed that and everything that was that great station. Who would have known, it would be some 20 plus years before I work in commercial radio, be it sports talk. I would like to thank you and all who have thought of me and my family. Your memories of my dad and of Acy's sure brought back some more of my own.

Oldies King, and Blair, I did not want to forget to say thank you, as well as everyone else formerly and currently in radio that sent condolences to my family.
