'Friends' star Matthew Perry dead at 54, according to reports

Gone way too soon. Apparently, says that he drowned in a jacuzzi and there were no signs of foul play. The autopsy should tell us more. Another massive celebrity loss in 2023... RIP Chandler.

Yes it's changed into a drowning investigation related to the death of Matthew Perry. But still he was one of the stars that made Friends the biggest sitcom of the mid-1990's.

I never watched "Friends" but I thought from what I knew about him that his character was the voice of reason and the most stable and logical of the characters (well, maybe except for Rachel).

I did watch the three sitcoms he has done since the show ended and I liked him in all of them. Especially "The Odd Couple" where he was Oscar to Thomas Lennon's Felix.

Here are the fans putting the memorial for Matthew Perry at his LA Home and the place where some of the exterior shots were taken for the show.

The one where hundreds gathered outside the "Friends" apartment building to say goodbye to Chandler Bing, played by the beloved late actor Matthew Perry.

Despite the rainy and gloomy weather, the street around the New York City's West Village building were covered in bouquets of flowers with fans paying their respects to Perry on Sunday.

Perry was found dead Saturday in a jacuzzi at his Los Angeles home from an apparent drowning. He was 54.
The beloved actor rose to fame for his portrayal of the comedic Chandler Bing on "Friends," so it was only right that fans gathered outside the iconic building used to shoot the outside of the show's building.

"It feels strange to feel sad about it, but it really has been a sad morning," 29-year-old Catherine Schmitt told Variety. "It's been my comfort show since I can remember. I can't imagine watching it now without feeling deep sadness."
Also apparently he was at a Pickleball game prior to his death.
Matthew Perry was doing what he loved just hours before his death.

Now his friend and pickleball coach is sharing with PEOPLE how much the popular sport meant to the actor, who died on Saturday at the age of 54. Matt Manasse, who has known the Friends star for two years, says it was an outlet for him and a tool he used on his sobriety journey.

“He thought it was something that could help with his recovery and he was doing an awesome job,” affirms Manasse, 35. “He loved it. He came out five times a week, would always talk about it. [He] got so much better, always made everyone laugh. He was competitive, just a genuine, good guy — caring for everybody.”

The Rembrandts youtube video given that they did the theme song for Friends called 'I'll be there for you' are getting Rest in Peace messages for Matthew Perry given the songs ties to the show.

Nick At Nite did a special for Matthew Perry.

Nick at Nite will air “Matthew Perry: Thanks for Being a Friend” on Sunday, Oct. 29, at 10 p.m. ET.

The tribute special will feature never-before-seen interviews with Perry, behind-the-scenes moments from the “Friends” set and highlights of Perry on the hit NBC sitcom. Entertainment Tonight produced the special overnight in less than 24 hours.

Following the conclusion of the special at 10:30 p.m., Nick at Nite will air fan-favorite episodes of “Friends” featuring Perry, which will continue all next week through Sunday, Nov. 5, beginning at 10 p.m.

Perry, who gained international recognition for his role as Chandler Bing on “Friends,” died Saturday at the age of 54. The actor was found dead in a hot tub at his Los Angeles home, law enforcement sources told the Los Angeles Times.

Tbh he could have had a relapse but we don’t know yet. He couldn’t help but lie that he had pain and migraines due to his addiction to prescription pain killers. He even talked about how he faked these things to get more drugs simply because he couldn’t help himself and how he was addicted to alcohol. It is really sad that he would die and he even went to rehab to try to get off of the drugs and stop drinking. Really tragic how he drowned in a pool at his own house.

This article has a great summary in Matthew Perry’s own words of how he wanted to be remembered:

“The best thing about me is that if an alcoholic or drug addict comes up to me and says ‘Will you help me?’ I will always say ‘Yes, I know how to do that. I will do that for you, even if I can’t always do it for myself.’ So I do that, wherever I can. In groups, or one on one,” he wrote. “And I created the Perry House in Malibu, a sober-living facility for men … When I die, as far as my so-called accomplishments go, it would be nice if Friends were listed far behind the things I did to try and help other people.”

Here is more for the fans of Friends.

Here is the Toxicology report on Matthew Perry.

FOX 11 obtained Perry's official autopsy report, which noted that the actor had a history of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease/emphysema, as well as diabetes. He also had abused drugs in the past but was reportedly clean for 19 months before his death. It also noted that Perry was on ketamine infusion therapy "with the most recent therapy reportedly one and a half weeks before death."

Perry, 54, was found unresponsive floating face down in a hot tub at his Pacific Palisades home on Saturday, October 28. His cause of death was initially listed as ‘deferred’ by the Medical Examiner's Office.
At the elevated levels of ketamine in his body after death, the main lethal effects were likely due to an excessive stimulation of the heart and decreased breathing. The drowning aspect is considered because he likely submerged in the hot tub and lost consciousness due to the effects of the ketamine in his system.

Buprenorphine, and other opioids, can lead to respiratory depression – when you breathe too slowly or too shallowly, leading to carbon dioxide building up in your blood. Ketamine can result in an increase in blood pressure, which the medical examiner noted in Perry's autopsy.
