Froggy 94.3 in Dyersburg

I was in Dyersburg last week and noticed billboards for Froggy 94.3. They had been simulcasting WLSZ 105.3 in Humboldt, but apparently since they were bought by Forever Communications, they were switched to simulcasting WTNV Froggy 104.1 in Jackson. In the times I've listened, the programming is the same except for carrying Dyersburg High School football on Friday nights. How long has this been going on?

I live very close but never listen.
Are any of these stations involved with WASL (SL-100) in Dyersburg.
They own an AM also, but I have no idea what it does.

I had to look up the information opn REC, but the station was WLSQ and co-owned with WLSZ 105.3 by Darrell Boyd, and both were sold to Forever Communications, and the call letters have been changed to WQGY. The COL is Dyer, but they marketed themselves as a Dyersburg area station. There was never any connection with WASL.

Also, WASL's AM station is WTRO 1450, and they have an oldies format.

I also noticed 104.1's call letters are now WJGY.

Last I heard, the soda bottling company in Dyersburg owns SL-100 and its sister AM station. Don't remember much about the AM, or SL-100 for that matter. However, I did notice WOGY 97.3, a CP licensed to Tiptonville, is apparently co-owned with WASL. Don't know if it's affiliated with the existing Froggy stations, though. WQGY 94.3 is listed as owned by Forever, and WTNV is now WJGY.

I THOUGHT the Distributor still owned WASL.
I was curious if it had been sold.
Darryl Boyd is from Humboldt.
Years ago, when I workd for WIRJ and then WZDQ, he owned at worked at a station there in Humboldt. It was an old AM only, and I forgot how his Z105 came to be. Years after we moved to Jackson as Q-102, Z105 appeared. I had moved on by then.

A few weeks. WASL is not part of Forever. Z105.3 will remain the same format. That stations control room is being outfitted in the Jackson building this week. So the studios will be right across the hall from Rock 92.3 in the Old 104.1 studio/my old production office/studio. I got moved back to another room in the building right next to the PD's office last week. LOL No sound soak on the cinder block walls until next week. So I call it the Boom Boom Room! LOL Not to be confused with the "Love Shack"! But that's another story! ;D

P.S. I guess some one is going to owe me a steak dinner after New Years. Russel's Beef House in Corinth, MS has the best! I can't wait! But I'd bet another steak dinner that the know-it-all "insider" #1 wouldn't pay up, and #2 wouldn't show up! LOL

Not sure about Tiptonville either. I don't think that's Forever. However the rest of that post is on the money.

Let me tell you what I know about Froggy 94.3 in Dyersburg. They are not a part of the Burks Broadcasting Group (the local Dr Pepper bottler) The Burks Group consists of WASL or SL100 which is hot a/c and WTRO AM which is Oldies with lots of Sports. There will be a new station added to the group sometime after the first of the year. The city of license is Tiptonville with studios in Dyersburg. The calls will be WTNV...Eagle 97.3. When Froggy 104 gave up their calls, mascot and Patriotic Theme they jumped all over them. What a perfect fit. TNV for Tiptonville and the Eagle for Reelfoot Lake. The tower will be located in Elbridge, TN which is one of the highest locations in Obion County. With 6,000 watts The Eagle will soar over Lake, Obion, Dyer, Gibson Counties with no problem. The format is yet to be determined. I understand that Charles Maxey, the GM will be stepping down the first of year. Roger Vestal, long time veteran of Jackson, TN radio will be taking over. Roger and Maxey have been working together for the past six months. Maxey will still be around until the EAGLE flies.

With all that, (tnv, eagle, etc.) I'd bet dollars to donuts it's going to be country... just from the aspect of an outsider looking in... why else would you grab all of the "Eagle" stuff, if you're not going to try and bring ti back... if I lived closer, I might actually listen.

What a great move by the station management folks at SL100. I thought it was a mistake by Forever to drop "The Eagle" and the call letters. I had listened for so long that they will always be thought of as WTNV to me but I guess everything changes.

I remember Roger from back in the "Hit Radio Q102" days. I was there and he was at "The New 92FM!"
Where was he before being sent to radio purgatory in Dyersburg?
It seems as though I saw something about him on here not too long ago.

Reading all this talk about this stuff...
I may have to find myself a part-time gig one day if this "jones" don't go away!
(Although, there's probably not a station who'd pay the $6.00 an hour I'd have to have! Ha!)

I gotcha $6.00! Come on and get all ya want to scratch that itch man!

Is that all radio pays around here. At $6.00 per hour I'd better let go of my dream of being an announcer and pursue something else like maybe a used car salesman.

Trust me, most of us in radio didn't pursue it for the money.

And in regards to the move by the Burks bunch, kudos to them for thinking ahead. Looks like they are making all the right moves these days.

Meep, if you want to know where Roger was, look no further, he was the GM of Clear Channel of Jackson, Forever Communications decided that they didn't need his services and let him go (with a Clear Channel agreement, the details i don't know.. you'll have to ask him)

But he was very influential during the Rise of the Eagle, and ROCK 92.3...

Gregg! You think you can get me 6.50????
I'm getting a fever...and the only prescription may soon be to hit the airwaves agin.

So I guess Roger is doing some management stuff, too...
It was pretty lame to let Guttery leave. They should have given him that gig.
Lord knows he's put in the time and put up with a LOT of crap!
But, it probably pays less than 30K per year anyway.
I wouldn't put up with all that crap for that.

Nope...true radio guys are not in it for the $$!! There just aren't that many jobs that pay all that much.
Too many people willing to do it too cheap. (maybe to avoid ACTUAL work-that's kind of why I did it for so long) The only decent money is in the larger markets, and as a whole that money is going DOWN.

It's very admirable of you guys who are in it just for the love of radio. There are a lot of great announcers in the area who pour their heart and soul into what they are doing and you would never imagine that they were underpaid from the tone in their voice. My hat's off to them for lifting up the listeners day in and day out while at the same time struggling to make ends meet. Great job guys (and gals) and thanks for allowing the rest of us to escape from our problems if only for a little while.

Hey Meep,
If you're serious, come talk to Don Elliott. He's the PD and handles all that stuff. ;) I'll buy your lunch!

Well, radiofan,
I didn't mean to make it sound as though most radio people are in the cheese line each month or anything.
I simply meant to express the fact that if money were a PRIORITY for the average radio person, they probably wouldn't be in radio.
There are some talentless people not too far from here that make outrageous amounts of money when compared to their overall abilities. Also, there are many people near us whose talents and abilities far exceed the dollar amount they are paid.
Radio is very arbitrary and way too much of the level of success someone reaches has far too much to do with right place, right time, and politics, than it does with talent, ability, and loyalty.

Gregg...I may be interested.

Couple of questions for you.
