Froggy Network

Word is after this saturday, all local jocks on 104.3 will be pulled off the air. The station will now network 24/7 with Froggy 98. The office & studio will be moved from East Liverpool to Center Township in Beaver County within the next 90 days. The AM station WHOI 1490 will also be moved & switched over to an ESPN format. Not sure if the plans are the same for 103.5 out of Stuebenville or the Uniontown Froggy, anyone else know?

Isn't 104.3 the one licensed to Burgettstown? If so, and if they're basically a relay for 98.3 (Duquesne), why move the studios and office to Beaver County?

Froggy 98 is located at the I-79/I-279 junction, on the hill, in Carnegie. Why not move 104.3 there? Doesn't make sense, if the word is right.

As for 103.5 and 94.9--without those stations added in, Froggy doesn't cover the metro. They're probably included in any plans that the Froggy Empire has. Come on people in the know, let's get "hoppin" on this information (sorry, couldn't resist).

I believe 103.5 In Stuebenville is licensed to Burgettstown. Of the 4 stations that make up the so-called Froggy network, 104.3 has the strongest signal. About 18 months ago their tower was moved out of East Liverpool, Ohio into Hookstown, Pa. I'm guessing they are moving their office to Beaver County for sales purposes only. Let's face it, since the station is going to be networked 24/7 the studio itself, will be nothing more than a Dell PC. The move will also house the oldies station The Pickle 92, which is also a 24/7 networked station, another PC.

As far as the sales end, 104.3 & 103.5 have more clients & take in more revenue than 98.3. Reason being, the same spot on 98 will cost you more money because it's considered the Pittsburgh market. Keeping a sales office in Beaver County where 90% of 104.3 advertisers are makes sense.

All I've been able to figure out about the whole Froggy Network thing, their Pittsburgh Station 98.3 has a very week siganl & alone, it can not compete for ratings with Y108. The only way it has a chance to succeed is to use 3 others stations to get their signal out. So much for one of the Frogs making a format change.

You're correct.

104.3 is the one that had the CP to move its COL to Moon Twp., PA (whatever happened with THAT?)

But your explanation for the Beaver Co. office makes sense, especially when combined with the Pickle.

104.3 has a construction permit to move in PA with a site south of Industry (south side of the Ohio River in the hills). It's a 500 foot tower, the antenna would be directional with a null towards the WNW (Cleveland? QAL?).

The move to Moon township is on hold because of objections filed by 104.7. They argue short-spacing on their second adjacent, while Keymarket argues that since both stations pre-date the 1962 table of allocations there is no second adjacent protections.

103.5 has applied to move to a site south of Imperial and Rt. 22 (near the airport). This proposal is directional towards the east, presumably to protect 103.9.

Re: Froggy Network and WOHI

A family friend works for Froggy/WOHI, and was informed of the move this past week. He once told me that if Paul Harvey and "Swap Shop" were dropped from WOHI, listeners would probably burn the station down! I guess we'll find out now, eh?

Another one bites the dust...
