Froggy...your NASCAR station?

18 year old girls listen to Steeler games on the radio?

Where have you been? Pink Roethlisberger jerseys have become a major
fashion statement among that group.

Years ago, I was in an Oakland sports apparel shop and buying a Myron Cope T-Shirt.

The fact I was later arrested while wearing this T-Shirt is totally irrelevant to this story.

Anyway, in the front of the store was a young, beautiful blonde. She was wearing a jean jacket with an airbrushed portrait of Randy Rhodes on the back of it.

And though unaware of the garment I had selected to purchase, she exclaimed, for all to hear- "WHO WOULD EVER BUY A MYRON COPE T-SHIRT?!?!!?"

I proceded to give this woman a piece of my mind. You should have heard what I said about her jean jacket!

And I like Randy Rhodes!

The point(s) of this story-

A- Young women are aware of the Steelers radio team

B- Young women do not listen to the Steelers radio team

C- Myron is sacred and his honor must be held above even your own lecherous needs.

Kenhawk, which station in your cluster carries the NASCAR races?

We carry NASCAR on AM 1050 WBUT. We've carried those races for quite a few years now.

Thanks Pratte for reading my mind -that sums it up exactly. Pittsburgh is stuck in its ways and is reluctant to change with the times. The powers-that-be fail to realize the ad potential here.

I heard a promo on WEGW from Wheeling today saying how it's "your station for NASCAR." Then, the announcer proceeded to say all of the "sponsors that bring NASCAR to Eagle 107.5" for a good long minute. None of which were strip clubs. Keep in mind how economically depressed Wheeling is compared to a major market like Pittsburgh. NASCAR has gotten so mainstream ever since the cable coverage on ESPN and TNN and exploded on the big FOX/NBC TV deal in 2001. It's not 1979 anymore where even the Daytona 500 is begging for airtime.

Pittsburgh's slogan - "Stuck in 1985 and we love it!"

Don't forget...we also have a lot of Southern transplants living up here...especially in Armstrong, Washington, and Fayette counties.

I never knew that. Too bad 1050 comes in even worse than 1110 or 1360 around here. Any chance of carrying the races on 97.7? At least I can get a fuzzy signal here. ;)

No chance. We'd be undermining our two AMs if we did that, and we're doing better than we ever have doing what we're doing now, especially with 97.7.
