So why does 98.3 need 2 more 10-watt translators on 105.5 and 97.5?

I can see the need for 97.5 to an extent, it's in Monroeville on Channel 22's analog tower, but the 105.5 choice is odd, as it's on the same stick with their primary 98.3 signal overlooking the 279 north corridor (and thus messing up another spot where I modulate my Sirius receiver... but I digress).

If they're for K-Love, where is the main signal they would pull from? Since both the translators are in the commercial band, they must retransmit an over-the-air signal and not simply run from a satellite feed. The closest K-Love signals are in Johnstown (105.7 and 90.7) and Wheeling (96.5) as far as I'm concerned, and I don't think any of those signals would stand a chance getting into Pittsburgh, even with a fancy antenna setup. 105.7 is first adjacent to the X, 90.7 is first adjacent to DUQ, and the 96.5 in Wheeling is a class A signal south of Wheeling.

If K-Love really wanted to be in Pittsburgh, I would think they'd be best off trying to buy 101.5 off of Salem, who is downsizing their operations a bit... or maybe they could buy one of the Frogs from the outlying parts to couple with the translators.

Hmm... the more I think about that last option, the more the translators make sense...

Then again, all speculation...
 
An addendum to my last comment... I guess K-Love already has a translator in McCandless Township area on 99.3 FM retransmitting WDKL 95.9 Grafton, WV (REC says license was granted Jan. 29 this year). I guess those other translators could fit with that setup. Adding especially the 105.5 signal for K-Love would give them supposedly decent coverage of Pittsburgh.
 
Frogs + K LOVE local affiliate stations=all the same owners under different group ownership names. ;)

I had read in Inside Radio about Salem downsizing their operations on a corporate-wide level. However, they're still strong. They're not going to give up Pittsburgh. This is one of their most profitable markets. I think this is just a changing of the business model, and not necessarily indicative of hardship.

But I do feel for the people who were let go...one of them's a good friend of mine.
