From 11 Alive to radio

I have not seen it mentioned here but 11 Alive reporter Denis O'Hayer is no longer with the station. He is now the local All Things Considered host on WPBA Radio. Denis is one of a very small handful of reporters in Atlanta who really understand politics and the legislature. All the best to him in the new role.

Gannett did not renew Denis' contract. It was probably a cost saving move but IMHO, a stupid one. O'Hayer is one of the sharpest reporters in the market. WABE's gain.

I understand that the GM of WABE (WPBA is the TV side...WABE was WPBA-FM for one month in 1984, see earlier posts) approached Mr. O'Hayer for the position. I don't believe WXIA/WATL was going to cut him (although with the latest cuts...they may have). But a smart move for him (who was a reporter for WGST in the 1990's) given the current climate.

Side note: Mr. O'Hayer did host "The Laymans Lawyer" on WPBA while working at WGST.
