As first hinted on ALL ACCESS last week (6/30), CLEAR CHANNEL RVPP KEVIN METHENY has announced today that DON HALLETT has been named PD at CC Hot AC WMVX (MIX 106.5)/CLEVELAND.

METHENY said, "I've admired and studied DON's work from afar for years before we met 10 years ago. CLEVELAND is clearly a unique environment, and MIX 106.5 is a unique radio station. DON's RADIO-IQ, experience, leadership skills and demeanor will serve the WMVX audience, staff, and advertisers and their community very well. I am delighted he has agreed to join CLEAR CHANNEL/CLEVELAND, where Adult Contemporary Radio rocks!"

HALLETT was previously PD at SAGA AC WSNY/COLUMBUS, and for the past decade he has run THE POSITIONING WORKS, a programming, marketing and research consultancy. He added, "My experiences and what I have learned from the world of consulting have been outstanding. I realized I missed the trenches and had more than enough frequent flyer miles for a lifetime of vacations. WMVX is a very good station. My goal is to make it a great radio station. With a little luck and a lot of hard work, it will be known as a dynasty in the company. I'm ecstatic that they've selected me to take the helm as PD at WMVX and I can't wait to meet the challenges ahead."

You've got a long way to go to make this perennially middle of the pack, mediocre station a DYNASTY!

But good luck, and bring us some GREAT RADIO, and not just a bunch of new slogans.

Don is a very good Program Director. He led Sunny 95 to great heights and will do the same in Cleveland.

I wish him the best. Though in retrospect, doesn't anyone think that CC/Jacor regrets dumping the "Lite Rock 106.5" image for the cookie-cutter "Mix" format? True, WLTF was hobbling badly at the time, what with WDOK and even WQAL besting them in the ratings...

I'll say this: WMVX won't change format. That's a given. They will be HAC'ing until hell freezes over.

But they SHOULD create a totally new identity for the station that better fits the region. (My choice: "106.5 The River," to reflect the Cuyahoga...) Otherwise, it will be just Brian & Joe, and little else...
