From BRW: WRKO Dumps Its Entire News Team

The same people who put the Celtics on rko, who put Taste of Boston on rko, who ran that idiotic bz rip off news wheel in the mornings are the same people who decided to fire their entire news staff today. Good luck to them creating a top notch radio product.

That was all Brian Whitemore, and Mike Elder, not Jason Wolfe

it was julie kahn

Strategic???

Don't get me wrong. I definitely feel from the WRKO News Team. However, I wonder whether this might be a stategic move on RKOs part, instead of a cost cutting one. They are the "talk station". Why not put all of the money into talk (your specialty product). Perhaps, they'll go after bigger, heavyweight talk show hosts. Perhaps, they'll go more "live and local" even on weekends. I'm not sure but I think it's a more "wait and see" before we can say that it's a bad move on RKOs part.

huge money for a crook like finneran?? with no track record??

Cut the news out altogether.

Anyone who tunes in a "talk program" for three hours will get the same stale news cast twelve times! The news is supposed to be part of the show but it ends up being more like a commercial.

If I want the news, I tune to BZ since that's what they do.

Elder was long gone.

Anyone think Julie Khan had an Oedipus moment, saw that Rod Fritz spoke at the same radio conference that one of WRKO's most outspokens critic appeared at on November 4th, and banned him?

Maybe she did a Google

IBS 2006 Master ScheduleRod Fritz, News Director, WRKO Radio, Boston Art Cohen, New Anchor, ... Joe Viglione, Independent Music Producer, Publisher, Host of “Visual Radio” ...

stranger things have happened

Jason wolf is the proud owner of "boston this morning with Scotto."

Personally, I always wondered how Jason would do in a different market. Sure WEEI is a strong station, but that is much a refelction of Boston's overly rabid localized sports mentality. Kudos for finding the best way to maximize that, but it isn't rocket science. His forays at WRKO haven't made any real impact, so the ability to do non sports is in question.

But, I really doubt he could recreate WEEI's success as a sports talker in any other city.

how does WFAN do in NYC... it's more sports-driven that WEEI's "guy talk," where they spend a lot of time talking about themselves until getting to sports and I get the feeling it's more successful...

Although Listo Fisher is on Panamanian decent it is sad that WRKO fired one of the only Black newsmen on Boston radio.

Wonder if the Black community will see some racial prejudice in this?
Still, that would be unfair to Listo whose talent is far beyond the color line.

Watch the RKO advertisers drop off now that it is sinking.

Break out the Champagne. The fall of this Entercom disaster couldn't happen to a ... Well, you get the point.

Will, the last person to leave the sneaker building please turn out the lights.

Actually, to fire everyone but Listo would have been racist. Atleast RKO is an equal op. terminator... ::)

Don't give yourself too much credit here Joe.

Maybe you'll post your Visual Radio shows on YouTube and see how many views they get?

WRKO should have kept Mary Blake and Rod Fritz, two Institutions, who are benign. Should get rid of Mo , Howie Carr, I agree and hope Limbaugh and Savage also go.

off topic to Smoke: close to 400 visual radios will be launching on YouTube in 2007. But you knew that.

Guarantee it's far more entertaining than anything on WRKO. I actually know how to interview people.

It's more fun than interrogating phantoms on the web, and we all know how much I love doing that!

How much longer before ex-WRKO newsfolk are at Metro doing WRKO's news?

>>Howie Carr

Howie is a Boston legend and the most popular show at the station and declined the least in ratings. Those
who don't like him are welcome to change the station or turn the radio off.

but she wants to kill h.c.'s syndication deal too!!

I had heard that there was a failure to get ad money from the syndie stations (not sure if his ratings were doing well elsewhere but they had trouble selling spots)...About 10 yrs ago HC was
syndicated by ABC Radio Today. Then a company called SupeRadio did it and now I think WRKO itself
is the syndicator. I do the HC Ping List on Free Republic and he does have followers across New England
and the US. Whether or not it's more than just a cult of fans, I don't know...
