The newspaper article was very well written. Country music has become, to put it in his words, too "formulaic," if there is such a word. Every now and then, a country song comes through and speaks to the heart, such as Kenny Chesney's "There Goes My Life" or Phil Vassar's "The Last Day of My Life." There are too few of those songs that speak from the heart and too many that speak from the liver or other parts lower. Rascal Flatts was one of my favorite groups until "Me and my Gang" came out. What were they thinking when they recorded it? I can handle a Hank Williams song...it's Hank, Jr. that I can't quite stomach.
