From people against censorship site

Debbie Wolf president of people against Censorship was on Glenn Beck's program last night talking about teh shock jock issue and was just on showbiz tonight debating Rev. Al Sharpton about O an A's curent situation. People against censorship were behind last weekends pro free speech rally for Jv and ELvis in Union Square that drew a whopping 100 people. Wolf is also apparantly a "pest" with a personal relationship with the O and A show, not just a non censorship advocate. This is what she suggests that O and A fans do. Some of the ideas reflect a sort of infantile mentality, for example constantly calling XM? XM knows who O and A are, what they do, that the calls are coming from people who have been instructed to call via wackbag or foundry music.com and not genuine, legitimate calls from subscribers etc, and suggesting that fans smash their XM radios? (wackbag.com has that genius idea) but people against censorship says "dont smash your radios" that they will come up with a better plan?....LOL...... but good luck to them!.

PLEASE SHOW UP AT CBS STUDIOS TOMORROW FROM 6-9 TO SUPPORT O&A, 40 WEST 57TH STREET, BETWEEN 5TH AND 6TH

Here is a list of things you can do to help O&A in their time of need. Please do all of these things, then do them again, then find away to get 100 other people to do them!!!!!!!!!!

1. CANCEL YOUR XM SUBSCRIPTION!!!! IF YOU CANCEL, IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU NOT TAKE THE 30 FREE DAYS OR THE 3 FREE MONTHS. YOU ARE NOT MAKING ANY STATEMENT AT ALL IF TAKE THE 30 DAYS.
Do not smash your radios yet. Wait. We'll come up with a plan to make a statement.
2. CONSTANTLY CALL XM. THEY HAVE RECEIVED A RECORD AMOUNT OF CALLS ALREADY, AND TONIGHT AND TOMORROW ITS IMPORTANT THAT WE REGISTER AS MANY CALLS WITH THEM AS WE CAN. KEEP CALLING EVEN IF YOU'VE ALREADY CANCELLED OR YOU'RE NOT CANCELLING. ALSO CONSTANTLY EMAIL XM.
3. CALL CBS AND THE CBS SPONSORS AND THANK THEM FOR SPONSORING O&A AND ASK THEM TO CONTINUE SPONSORING O&A.
4. CONTACT ANY PRESS WHO WILL LISTEN TO YOU
5. JOIN PAC AND GET ANYONE YOU CAN TO JOIN AS WELL
6. CONTACT ANY COMICS/MUSICIANS/PEOPLE WHO HAVE APPEARED ON O&A. WRITE THEIR EMAILS AND MYSPACES AND ASK THEM TO STAND UP FOR O&A IN THE MEDIA. TELL THEM o7A PROMOTED YOU--- PLEASE HELP THEM NOW.

All sound like very good suggestions for the ultra dedicated O & A fan, and for any fan of talk radio in general to be proactive, because their favorite show may be next. Ms Wolf should be commended for her activism in trying to protect something she believes in.

Supporting a commercial television or radio show is fine. Express yourself. Write letters. Bang on pots and pans. Try a boycott. But it's not a censorship or a free speech issue. O & A and anyone else mentioned above all have their constitutional rights to free speech firmly intact. They are free to express themselves in print, on the internet, on any radio or tv station that they are a guest on or that they might own. They can shout it out from the highest mountain and the local street corner 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. But, there is no constitutional right to be paid to express your opinion. They are not guaranteed a platform with a paycheck. JV & Elvis, Don Imus, etc., were paid employees. They were paid to perform an unscripted radio program. Both expressed ideas and made what they thought were entertaining comments that listeners objected to. Those listeners expressed themselves to the employers of the entertainers and used their free speech rights to let the public know of their dissatisfaction. The employers decided to terminate the entertainer. That’s their right. The entertainers have constitutionally guaranteed right to sue the former employer for breach of contract. That’s how it works.

Good post Talking Furniture.

First, I enjoy crude, tasteless, juvenile humor and I support O&A’s right to say anything they want and joke about anything they want on a private subscription service. Anybody that wants them fired for being offensive is misguided. This is America and with a few logical exceptions, we have the right to be offensive.

But…O&A were not suspended for what they said; they were suspended for doing something that their employer told them not to do. If I disobey a direct order at work, I’m putting my job in jeopardy just like they did.

I’m not happy about this situation, but will I cancel my XM subscription or smash a radio I paid good money for? No.

Well said Dash. I think they were in enough of a tight spot, they were told not to talk about it (right or wrong) because the XM people thought they would only throw gasoline on the fire, they did and they were suspended or fired depending on which story turns out to be true. As for the smashing the radio in protest, again you've already paid for it so it says nothing more than you're a self mutiliating idiot if you do that. O and A apparantly got the message today that they were not to talk about their XM situation as they made no mention of it but Larry Wachs who is filling doghouse's spot mentioned the "protest" (which by most accounts was around 30 people) and suggested that it would have made more sense to protest in front of XM's studios instead of cbs.
