First Broadcasting Relaunches KBIS-AM/Dallas

The onetime Business Talker returns to the air today after having been dark for the last few months while First upgraded it from 1,000 to 25,000 watts and built a new tower in Lewisville, TX, expanding KBIS's signal across the Dallas-Ft. Worth market. A further upgrade, to 35,000 watts, is in the works.

Rechristened "Magic 1160," the station at 10am debuted an all-Motown format with a song list that covers the '60s, '70s and '80s. Magic 1160 will run commercial-free for the next few weeks. First Broadcasting Chairman/CEO Ron Unkefer says, "The tempo of the new Magic 1160 will be upbeat and fun and unlike anything else on Dallas-Ft. Worth radio."

Yes, this station will be enjoyed by 31 or so people, would that make it unlike anything else?<P ID="signature">______________

2 weeks.
Even at 25k you can't hear them south of 635. I think I got better reception when they were KVIL-am.

Reception is lousy in South Irving...probably reciever desensitization being too close to 1190's transmitter. The reception is good through South Arlington on I-20. It drops off sharply along 35W though going south to Burleson. They have to protect KRDY in San Antonio.

That really deep null toward Burleson also protects KCLE 1140 Cleburne.

The article that was mentioned in the beginning of the thread contained a glaring error about the transmitter location ("a new tower in Lewisville"). KBIS now has two sites, each with multiple towers. Nighttime uses the Lewisville site and the daytime site is over in Wise County (near Boyd, SSW of Decatur). From what I've heard KBIS's daytime signal overall is really disappointing, and I can't understand why, unless they're not through tweaking it. I caught the 1000 watt signal last night and was pretty impressed with it, but can anybody hear it in Fort Worth at night? Pretty doubtful, I'd think.

I was recording it last night around 8pm on my little boombox at my apartment and I still heard it. By the way, I am in Ft. Worth. I just hope that some of the negative comments that I've read on this board is motivation for 1160 to succeed. I just wonder why 1190 didn't get that kind of criticizm when they launched?
