From Radio Online...opening at Double O?

Cox Taps Randy Chase to Program KCYY-FM/San Antonio

Cox Radio taps 20-year industry vet Randy Chase as Program Director of Country KCYY-FM (Y100) and Country KKYX-AM/San Antonio, effective November 17. During his career, Chase has programmed Country outlets in Baton Rouge and Columbia, SC. Most recently, he served as OM/PD of WWNQ-FM (94.3 Country Legends)/Columbia.

Isn't Tim Miller still over there doing mornings on the classic country? He used to program Oldies. Any chance there?

Tim is basically being tracked in the morning at 94.3 and personally I like Tim, but I don't really remember his programming that great at Oldies 103. As much as Jeff roper is a clown, he is probably the best choice to program both stations and maybe he can get country legends out of the doldrums by making all of their programming live or as live as New 92 is.

Actually, although Jeff certainly could program both stations effectively, he doesn't want to. I'm somewhat familiar with his morning show deal with Double O and, trust me, it's in his best interest to concentrate on the morning show. He recognizes this, but he also recognizes that, for the time being, he's the best programming option for now, so he stepped up. You know, for as much flak as he gets, every one of us recognize (or should recognize) that he wants to win. He's a competitor and he wants to win. Period. I know of only one other person in Columbia that wants to win as much as Jeff does and his name is Jonathan Rush.

You mean Rod Metts. :)

I'm not sure in the long or short term WWNU or WWNQ individually will be winners unless WCOS makes some drastic missteps. After divestures, Columbia will be a bottom-tier Clear Channel market, so the possibility (not the probability) is there that Clear Channel will let things slide. Not likely though.

The best case scenario for Double O absent a format change on one of the sticks is to maximize what they have and squeeze WCOS from both sides. They were doing that before but have lost focus.

Geez, Dude! Would you go up to Superman and say, "Yo, Clark, let's meet for Happy Hour!"? You've never asked me to transform into Cyclops and head out to Meritage(when it was open). I swear...superheroes and DJs just can't count on the degree of anonymity we've enjoyed in the past. There goes the neighborhood...lol.

Hah.

I remember when Benji Norton and Brad Messer called JR by his real name over the air. JR overreacted and had a COW! Funny radio.

Meritage, alas, is closed. However, if you don't mind moving to slightly less highbrow eats, Wild Wing Vista is a fantastic joint. I'll be glad to spring for a cocktail... or brewski next Friday night.

It'll be interesting what the new PD does with NOK.

Of course, Benji would go menstrual when Millender at WARQ used to talk about him having a weave...but then, I remember at Z96 WAAAYYYY back in the day, when Pandora (yes, THAT Pandora) got extremely pissed when Mountain Man was teasing her show at the conclusion of his, saying, "Up next, Pandora...living proof that Alex Haley wasn't the only person with black roots." Classic.

Raincheck on cold beverages...won't be in town until around 12/14. I'll be making my way to Myrtle Beach via Columbia. Maybe then?

Oh, almost forgot, my old boss in Atlanta, Dale O'Brien, knows the new PD well. Sez he's a good guy and a solid programmer. If Dale says it, it's true. Should be interesting, tho, just like you say.

Summers..you dog! Holla at yo boy! Doing the COS weekend thing in between cheerleading contests and whatever. Radio is interesting..not as much fun as the Z-96 days...(are there still warrants for John Q. Rocke?)..but interesting none the less. I'll be in NC for a contest in December buti'll be at crib when you roll through. Get at me! We can go have that drink at an adult establishment...after church of course..lol!

Thrills,

I thought the adult establishments were established BECAUSE radio wasn't as much fun anymore...either way, sounds like a plan. After church, yes.
