Victoria getting new Christian radio station
There's more than one Christian radio station on the Victoria area's FM dial now.
After completing a 500-foot radio tower north of Victoria on the Hallettsville Highway, KHCB is broadcasting in the county, said volunteer Bill Doyle.
"It's powerful. It'll probably reach all the way to the Gulf, up to San Antonio," he said.
The tower took about two weeks to install, he said.
KHCB, which stands for Keeping Him Close By, is stationed in Houston and is now broadcast in 15 counties, including the Seadrift/Port O'Connor area.
It can be found at 91.5 FM in Victoria and 105.1 FM in Seadrift.
"It's high-class stuff," Doyle said. "It's high quality with beautiful music."
The station plays Christian worship music and airs biblical teachings by Chuck Swindoll, Beth Moore and others.
KHCB's goal was to be on air in Victoria by Easter, but managed to begin broadcasting earlier in the week.
"They had to do some fine-tuning. We're thrilled to be on air before Easter," Doyle said.
He said he's been trying to get the station to put up a Victoria tower for three years but due to hurricane damage the station had to fix its towers before beginning work in Victoria.
Doyle noted that the station is not in competition with KSBJ, which plays more contemporary, modern Christian music.
"It completes the circle," he said.
Doyle added that the new station will likely attract listeners over the age of 30 and those under 30 will likely tune into KSBJ, which is also a Houston-based station.
KHCB Radio Network also has Spanish, Chinese and Vietnamese broadcasting, has podcasting and is on satellite radio.
The station's program schedule is available at www.khcb.org.
