From the front page: Revenue up.Could we see ......

According to a front page story here on Radio Info Revenue is an average 7% up. I know its only one QTR and you a need a few good qtrs to make up some of the loses from the past 2 years.

Any possibillities we can start seeing some better programming down the road. Espspecially from WSNE and B101.

I would settle for a simulcast of KISS on WSNE.I think WSNE would do fine as a full simulcast of Kiss rather than the boring sound they now have.

As for B101, I'll even settle for Donny Osmonds midday show now.It least it shows a heart beat.

I have come to reality that the local DJ has morphed into viocetracking and syndication and the day of the radio DJ is pretty much done but I think a better product can be put together than some of the crap out there now even if theres no one in the studio to push a button.

Just because revenue is up does not mean profits are up. Expenses are up just as much. If any profits appear, I would think they are going to go to paying down the debt load of parent companies first or to the financial groups that have bailed some of the major broadcasters out of bankruptcy or near bankruptcy. Better programming is far down the list of where money will be spent. Many sorely needed capital improvements have been shelved due to finances. I do not think you will ever see expanded air staffs again. The cost savings of automation or voice tracking will be the norm now.

I agree with the previous comment. "Better programming" is a matter of opinion.

We need to get a better handle on what the audience sees as "better programming," not what just means jobs for employees. The audience wants more involvement in programming. And they like celebrities. So just a local hire doesn't translate to better programming unless it's a GREAT local talent, and someone who has access to great content. If you can book bigger stars than Donny Osmond, then do it. If not, then stay out of the way.

There's only one actual celebrity on Providence radio daily and that's Seacrest on Coast. All the other out of town people are virtual unknowns providing no local content. I know most here didn't like Ed McMann when he was on B101 but if he'd been on for the last month, voicetracked from Mass or not he would have mentioned the historic flooding. I assume Matty did but did anyone else?

This is very true. People like to throw around the word celebrity a lot. But this is how you can verify if someone is a real celebrity. Go up to 10 random people on the street and ask them if they know who (insert name here) is. If all 10 of those people give you a blank stare, Guess what that means? LOL. Don't forget about the AM side though. Rush Limbaugh is definitely a celebrity. Same with Hannity and O'Reilly. Even Michael Savage. There are definitely more celebrities on the AM side than FM.
