I had the pleasure of working with Jim Greenfield at WHNR during the '90s. Jim is a legend in Polk County broadcasting, having served as ND at several stations in the market. Among the stations on his resume are WSIR, WGTO, and WVFM. After WHNR went dark in early 1995 after the owner could not get a suitable offer to sell, Jim went to work for Hall Communications in Lakeland to continue covering the Winter Haven and Polk County Commissions.
I recently discovered that Jim is now semi-retired, working for the City of Winter Haven in it's Communications and Marketing office. He had put nearly 50 years in the business, and loved it all.
Also, it was good to hear another collegue from WHNR on the air recently. Terry Lombardi started at 1360 AM, and he was on one of the Hall stations. Great to hear that fine voice. I understand this is his second tour of duty with Hall, doing news for the four stations and some weekend/fill work on 97 Country. He and Jim are both good people.
There's a great Web site that goes into details of WHNR's recent history. http://www.radioyears.com/other/details.cfm?lid=14&id=662
In the left column on the Web page are links to similar features regarding some of the stations and people in Polk County's radio history. It's a great read.
