From the San Antonio/Austin Board, something interesting

Anyone listen to Bubba the Love Sponge and hear him pimping a brand new affiliate in Houston coming soon?

K Rock 101 perhaps?

wishful thinking, but since the station in San Antonio is a Cox property, I'll pick 106.9 or 97.1 as the Houston possibility.

The Love Sponge is a Cox show I think...so....we FINALLY gonna see the end of the Point?

I'll vote for 106.9. Although Country Legends 97.1 has slipped in recent times, the format is still probably the best use of the frequency, given the transmitter location and the demographics in that coverage area.

The Point is tired, and there may be too much demographic and music timeframe overlap with co-owned KGLK. Of course, this board has been speculating about the demise of KHPT for years now, and nothing has happened.

X106.9- Houston's New Rock Alternative?

Cox recently flipped 102.9 in Jacksonville from a "Point" format to Alternative (X102.9). We'll see.

I've enjoyed Bubba on Sirius for the past few years. That would be great to have him in Houston (a sanitized version of his show of course). If you haven't ever heard the show, don't let the name scare you off. It's actually pretty good stuff.

But GIVEN the COMPLETE freedom that Bubba has on Sirius, and GIVEN the STRICTER rules that TERRESTRIAL radio has, and GIVEN the nature of Bubba and HIS show...can his show be cleaned up ENOUGH for K-Rock 101 (or ANY station in San Antonio/Austin)??

Bubba is having no problem doing a FCC compliant show for Cox. I think it's on in Tampa, Jacksonville, and Dayton, but I could be wrong on Dayton. He does it separately from Sirius, because, frankly he has a bigger audience on terrestrial radio than satellite. That makes it worth cleaning up the language.

I don't expect KONO to change a thing. But we'll know what replaces FM Talk in San Antonio tomorrow afternoon.

The new format in SA is X1067, world class rock.

I doubt that type of format is coming to 106.9, since 103.7 already has it, sorta. Wouldn't that hurt The Eagle anyway?
