It is suggested not to bump an old thread here...but Stanislav's post on KHMA reminded me of this....

In that old thread, WETV 13 Key West was mentioned. Ch 13 went dark in 1990 or 91, and although it was never re-used for Key West, it *is* used at times for TV Marti, which aims its signal toward Cuba. UHF ch 20 is also used at times.

Anyway, here's my collector's item----a snapshot of WETV which I recorded from the lower FL Keys in Apr 1990. It was either a 100% relay of TBN or close to it.

Aren't there now two "full power" TV channels in Key West, actually very low powered affairs which exist only to assure their carriage on cable and sat in the Miami DMA? I believe both have translators in Miami, which is their real OTA presence. Is there any other OTA presence in Key West other than stray signals from Havana?

I lived in Marathon, (about 50 miles north of Key West) and visited all over the Keys and I was never able to pick up an over the air signal. Of course this was the early 90s but there were translators, but no one could ever pick them up. I don't even know if they really ran or not.

Here's one comingback from the dead (northpine.com/broadcast gets the credit)

KSNB-TV/4 (Superior, NE) wants to move its transmitter closer to Lincoln. The Colins Broadcasting station left the air in Dec. 2009 when Pappas Telecasting's time brokerage agreement to operate KSNB ended. The station's former transmitter site, which is closer to Superior, is owned by Pappas. Now, KSNB has applied to move to the KTMX/104.9 (York) tower near Cordova and use 23.5kW/271m on channel 4, which would theoretically provide coverage to Lincoln, Hastings, and Grand Island. (Indoor reception of VHF DTV stations has proven difficult, but there are already DTV stations on channels 5, 8, 10, 11, and 12 in the region.) The station could invoke must-carry rights to get cable and satellite coverage across the sprawling Lincoln-Tri Cities market. Colins also owns two low-power stations in Lincoln, which also went silent. (7/5/2011)

As one who travels to KW for DX purposes, like the photo I mentioned, I can tell you that there *are* 2 stations in Key West---well, supposed to be---but they function as LPTVs, in both substance AND power.

WGEN (now DT 8 ) hardly makes it beyond Key West. I only caught it twice this season from my home 125 mi. away, and *that* was with a super antenna. It ekes out to maybe 30 miles.

WSBS (*supposedly* DT 3) I have a feeling is NOT on the air as DT 3. It *is* served via an LD in Miami on DT 50. I was *in* Key West along A1A with a battery TV/converter box on power inverter/rabbit ears, and don't remember 3 even showing a bar.

I DX from the Keys a lot, especially to monitor Cuba; but Key West proper is not a good place for it---maybe power line issues.

Any idea what network the revived KSNB might affiliate with (since Lincoln has a new Fox affiliate after KSNB went dark).

Did you ever notice when you pass by Stock Island near the military base, how you can barely pull in anything? Not radio or anything. I did find it amusing in Marathon, (50 Miles north of Key West) even baby monitors were pretty useless as Cuban radio would broadcast and overpower them. :)

Actually for me, even Marathon stinks as a DX spot, as does Key Largo. Best places are away from power lines, natch!

Actually WCAY-LP Channel 19-LP, and one other LP are in Key west (This was back in 2009, could of changed by now. All produce local programming. Sorry don't know the calls of the other two.

WCAY Tourist info (Still going very popular)
19 - Live local weather around the clock
Third LP (On cable system) shows local commercials and several B/W public domain movies.

The was a fourth WGAY-LP. Targeting the Gay/Lesbian community. But I think the station was sold, and is now dark.

The station closed down around 2008 and sold to another broadcaster, which became WMDF-LP. According to FCC records, that station is still dark.

According to Wikipedia, WCAY broadcasts on channel 34, still with the tourist format.

That station is WEYW-LP which, if Wikipedia is to be believed, is now affiliated with RTV.

Not to stray off topic, but the current WCAY Key TV uses DT 36. Found that out when noticing no DT3!

WCAY (Key TV) Has been around forever. Very good production, excellent video quality,
