From the "....well, duh!" file, here comes this......

From today's ALL ACCESS news page come this......

"KDKA-A/Pittsburgh Appoints John McIntire Permanent Evening Host
CBS RADIO News/Talk KDKA-A/PITTSBURGH today announced the promotion of JOHN McINTIRE to the permanent evening host position. "THE FLIP SIDE WITH JOHN McINTIRE will continue to be heard weeknights 8p-10p following IC LIGHT SPORTS TALK.

Commented KDKA-A PD STEVE HANSEN, "Even when McINTIRE was on TV he was doing a radio show. JOHN McINTIRE creates true theater-of-the-mind, except that his mind is like a 3-D Omnimax. He’s one of the most unique talk radio talents in the country and creates destination radio five nights a week."

With this promotion comes word that CAROL LEE ESPY will take over as host of "THE LIFE LOUNGE," the SATURDAY 7p-12a show McINTIRE had been hosting on the station since JUNE '05."

I may not always agree with John's views, but he did take NightTalk and make it something worth watching. But given that baseball's regular season begins in 4 days, I wonder how John's going to feel about pre-emption. Hopefully it'll give him more time to create, not that he isn't creative already. I've always liked his commentary style, sans his politcal views at times. I just hope it just doesn't turn into a left-leaning version of Honzberger. For someone of his talents and credentials, it sure beats writing every so often for a weekly rag sheet. BTW, does he still do that, and if so what will become of that? Good luck John.

Yes, being on from 8 to 10 instead of 8 to midnight will really mean a lot of baseball pre-emptions. Out of a possible 65 Monday-Friday shows in April, May and June, he'll only be on the air for 20 of them because of Pirates conflicts.

But the season ends on Oct. 1, and he'll be able to build some momentum then.

I guess they're stuck with the O'Reilly show, otherwise they could stretch McIntire from 8 to midnight, and he could get on the air more often after the game broadcasts end.

He still writes a column every other week for City Paper. Can't see why that wouldn't continue. It's usually just a spinoff of one of his broadcast commentaries, and I'm sure City Paper likes having him dropping their name on the air. Plus it's an extra $100. Starbucks money.

No Bucco playoff futures this year, in your estimation? :)

$100--that's, what, one Venti burned coffee at Starbucks, right?
