FROM WWW.INSIDERADIO.COM: Contest violations lead to $16,000 worth

Four stations – Entercom’s KDGS, Wichita, Access One’s WTKU, Ocean City, NJ, CBS Radio’s WIP, Philadelphia and Saga’s WAQY, Springfield, MA – get nabbed for various infractions related to contests. In the case of WTKU – a caller using multiple phones was both the 7th and 8th caller and claimed he should’ve been awarded the prize.

QUESTION? WHERE ON FCC.GOV COULD YOU FIND THE FULL TEXT ON THIS?

THANX

It might not have made it on the FCC site yet, but Joel Denver's allaccess.com has a pretty good story on their site. I'll keep looking for it to pop up on the FCC site.

I would think that there would be a page where you could put in the callsign or facility ID or something and have it come back with all the violations that a station has gotten. If that's available through the regular AM/FM/TV Query page I haven't found it. The only thing I've ever seen are the briefs and links in the Daily Digest, but going through each one would be a real PITA.

The FCC's Enforcement Bureau generally posts these items within a few days of initial announcement.

If the NAL or NOV is issued by Washington, it will appear under here:

http://www.fcc.gov/eb/broadcast/

If it is issued by a Field Office, it will appear here:

http://www.fcc.gov/eb/FieldNotices/

In the case of TKU's, here it is:

>> When Station personnel picked up the Complainant's second
telephone line next, making him the eighth caller in line, he was informed
by Station personnel, that he was still considered only the seventh
caller, and he was denied an opportunity to participate in the contest.
Shortly thereafter, the Complainant's mother, Elaine Mack, called the
Station and confirmed that Mr. Mack had been eliminated from the Contest
due to his use of multiple phone lines,

Point #1: Ha ha ha! Nerdy radio prize pig, living at home with mom, has multiple phone lines installed in his room/windowless basement/treehouse, tries to suck a lousy $275 out of 98.3, gets outed as a prize pig and gets screwed-over, and then has his mommy call the radio station?

Point #2: 98.3 was giving away $275? That's it? What's the contest budget there? Wonder if it's all going to pay the $4000 fine?!

Not that it really matters, but the Vault started out low. As time went by, extra money and prizes were added to the vault. I don't know why Ricci just didn't let the kid take a guess.

Having been there, the laughable reaction was by Mr. Ford, who, instead of trying to smooth things over and attempt to make the slightest restitution, was defiant, amending the contest rules the very next day, as if that would cover his tracks and make Ms. Mack (and her son) go away. I guess since Mr. Ford is no longer employed there, he won't be paying back any of the moolah. However, Mr. Ricci still is....
