Frosty, Heidi, & Frank Gone Oct 1st

Huh?! I thought Frosty was just leaving? I thought the ratings were good?

Yeah this news totally blindsided me. I didn't see this coming at all. They were supposedly doing well in the ratings. But even if they weren't shouldn't KABC have given them more time, for crying our loud, Al Rantel and Larry Elder had zero ratings and KABC kept them for decades before deciding to make a change. I think Jack Silver has hit the bottle again. All I can hope is that they don't put that Glee teacher John Philips on during that slot. His phoney "yuk yuk" voice that first time radio people always use drives me crazy.

KABC. Thanks for FHF while it lasted. It really was enjoyable to have a little relief from the self righteous BS that talk radio spews out all day long. I guess I'm back to my iPod.

Richard

They all were apparently fired (I guess KABC really has no money left) and Frosty decided to "retire" and Frank and Heidi will go back to doing a podcast. It sucks not to have the three of them on.

It would be great if KFI took them on for that short 2 hour slot at noon. They certainly can do much better than that horrible Bill Carroll. But KFI like KABC has idiots in the programming department that have a coporate mentality rather than fresh out of the box thinking

Fascinating. LARadio.com also says they're all gone October 1 (although I don't have access to full story there). I won't miss them. Nice of KABC to give them a graceful exit instead of the usual ten minute warning--or a cell phone call.
Now the guessing game begins--who will fill that slot? Someone I can tolerate or not? Someone I look forward to?
It's a tough time of day to compete. Limbaugh and Prager are options here for talk junkies.

I look forward to reading Radio-Info speculation on this subject...but I guess we'll all know soon enough since it's not that far off.

WTFman

I think they will put Mr. Glee John Philips on in that time slot until they can round up enough cash to buy a real talk show host. Remember Al Rantel used to be the towel boy at KABC and now appropriately it is John Philips who is ready to fill any slot.

Isn't Leykis available? Hasn't his contract with CBS now near expiration?

Here is what Tom Leykis had to say on his twitter account:

tomleykisshow So Frosty is gone...Heidi and Frank remain. What happened? Frank didn't want to take a paycut so he threw Frosty under the bus? Just askin'.

Tom is still under contract to CBS through 2012. Plus he wouldn't take a 9am-12pm slot.

Yeah the bad blood between Leykis and Frank still is alive and strong.

So Leykis is out until 2012. Can't think of anyone else who can take on that time slot. But I think KABC has learnt from its past mistakes and will go local at this time and the only one who will do it for pennies is John Philips.

Also I think Frosty probably has had enough with the back to back firings first at KLSX and now KABC. Radio is such a different business today. Luckily he perhaps is the only one out of the three who can walk away from radio. He can have an income as a session musician or I think he also writes jingles which is extremely lucrative. So I think he will do fine. It's the other two I'm worried about.

That's a pretty good line... Maybe John & Jeff from klsx? Wouldn't surprise me to see someone pair-up with Teressa Strasser in that slot. I remember Frosty babbling on last year about how they were going to "change the face of AM radio" in L.A. Whoops!

Here the story from Radio-Info

"LARadio.com was the first to report that the late-morning team of Frosty, Heidi & Frank will be gone when their one-year contract expires October 1. However, they will not all be leaving radio. Frosty Stilwell is planning to retire, but Heidi Hamilton and Frank Kramer will continue with a daily internet radio show and podcast. Citadel’s KABC PD Jack Silver says, “TalkRadio 790 KABC will continue a sales and marketing partnership with Heidi & Frank’s podcast project, including commercial endorsements and live events.“ LARadio.com quotes Kramer as saying, "KABC gave us a shot [during the one-year contract]. It was kind of like an old lady getting new boobs. In the beginning it is amusing but after awhile they just don’t look right on her. We still have a great relationship with everyone at KABC."

Actually I love Don Barrett, but he wasn't the first.

The blogger at http://ihearttalkradio.com/ reported it last week.
"So…looks like Frosty, Heidi and Frank are getting fired. Again. I think their last show on KABC will be Friday 9/10/10.

In situations like this I normally give you a bunch of supporting evidence – snippets from the show, interpretations of inflection, divine inference, etc. However, this time, it’s not even worth it. No one’s trying to hide it."

@FrankArmy 40 is going to be my best year ever. No boss,no bullshit, no problems.

So what’s going to happen now?

Frosty’s history. I don’t know where he’s going or what he’ll do. I will miss him though.

Frank and Heidi will continue their after-hours show with Smees. (Smeeze? Have we decided on an official spelling of his name?) And they’ll probably start doing it daily, or at least a few days a week.

The last time FHF were fired, I cried all weekend. I felt sick to my stomach every time I thought about it. This time?

And it’s weird that there’s a radio show with a huge, loyal audience that no radio station wants to carry. And yet, boring shows like John Phillips? They’re like – Yes! We love John Phillips! He ‘fits in’ with our station! Whatever that means…

To those bloviators on this board--one in particular--who insist on calling LARadio' journalism "gossip," note the above. A blogger posts a gossip rumor. Don posts when it is a confirmed reality. And, pal, I am not Don Barrett. I have met him three times--twice at radio industry functions and once at lunch when he announced his diabetes issues, and I wanted to know how we might help. He is a professional, unlike some here.

I like this show... this news shocks me. Though, I don't think they fit in a news/talker.

Hey, why not go on KTLK? They have the comedy duo Frangela there. If CC thinks they fit on a progressive talk station, why not get FHF there? They'll surely get better ratings than the other shows on that station!

According to the reports Heidi and Frank will continue with the podcast. KABC will continue some sort of marketing arragement. Frosty is out. Now....replacements?

That would be ideal, but I could imagine CC doesn't want to take away from KFI in any kind of way. But, for the sake of 1150, sticking anything on their would probably be some sort of improvement.

I did not post a 'gossip rumor.' (Btw, is that like a prostitution whore?) I posted my OPINION based on my interpretation of facts and experience. I don't claim to have any inside information and I'm not about to wait until things are confirmed before I write about them. How boring would that be - to write or to read?

Well, maybe it's time for Mr. KABC to make a come back.

I have not been able to figure out why someone didn't snap him up long ago. Now he's moved to Las Vegas, and I doubt that he'd be willing to move back to L.A. Perhaps a broadcast from LV studios?...
