FSN Arizona and ASU - why tape delay the game?

Rather than joining the game in progress (live) after the conclusion of the D'backs game, they carried the game from the start, on an approximately one-hour tape delay. The problem with this, of course, is that most people already were listening live on KTAR or getting the score via the ESPN ticker. My feeling is that they should have just cut in live after the baseball game.

Or, depending on how the contracts with the teams are written, one of them could have been farmed out to another Fox outlet (Channel 10 or 45). Or, if using a broadcast station is a no-no, do a makeshift Fox Sports Net 2 on Cox 7 or a vacant analog channel. They've done this before - I believe it was for a Suns-Diamondbacks conflict when KUTP was unavailable or unwilling to carry the Suns game due to network commitments.

Either way, no carrying both games live is unnecessary and undesirable, but most of the blame should reside with the D'backs. The Diamondbacks erred seriously by not signing with another broadcast station when they were dumped by KTVK (and Belo erred by dropping them, rather than moving them to KASW if Dr. Phil is more important to them than baseball). Since they already have a contract with Fox, Channel 45 would have been a perfect home for them.

Not that it means much now (in addition to the limited distribution), but Fox College Sports CENTRAL (yes, Central) carried the entire game live in its entirety.

There must be something in the contract with the D'Backs that obligates FSN to carry the game in its entirety. I opted to listen to the game on KT'R, the Valley's #1 #2 News and Sports Talk Station.
