FSN NY: Time To Put This Puppy To Sleep

So let's see, after the advent of two new regional sports channels in YES and SNY, the only sports contracts FSNY has remaining are Devils and Islanders games - and it's only a matter of time before the Devils jump ship to YES.

Which means FSN New York will literally be wasting airspace most of the time. Case in point: Flipping channels last night, I found out that FSN New York was airing - and apparently will be airing nightly - "Boston Sports Tonight". That's right - a Boston-geared sports recap show on a New York sports regional. (Note that FSNY used to have its own such nightly recap show up until a couple years ago.)

My suggestion to the parent owners of FSN New York: Consolidate MSG Network and FSNY into one channel, and move the new SNY from Channel 60 or wherever it is to FSNY's current position on the roster. And replace SNY's original position with - I dunno - ESPNews? NFL Network?

Cablevision is no stranger to creating bad networks and then putting them out of their misery... Remember Metro?<P ID="signature">______________

I read on another board that the Devils recently signed a long term contract with FSNY. They were originally supposed to go over to YES next season (I think) but they pulled out of that deal. But either way FSNY and MSG have no professional sports programming during the summer. During the winter there would be too much overlap to have the Knicks, Rangers, Devils, and Islanders all on one network. SNY currently has no winter programming so maybe the Islanders could go over there.

That talk about the Devils going to YES was during that all-too-brief time which the Devils were associated with the Yankees and Nets in their short-lived YankeeNets partnership. I believe that when YankeeNets was dissolved, the Devils/YES deal went with it. I don't know about the status of the Islanders' deal with FSNY, but I wouldn't be surprised if they jumped over to SportsNet New York in the future.

While I also agree that one of these channels should be turned off (and FSNY would be my choice to get blown up), Cablevision will never let it happen. In the fall, they'll probably give more time to local college football and hoops, and there's MetroStars...er, Red Bulls soccer and Liberty basketball during the summer. And, of course, there's those exciting replays of the Knicks from this past season.

I'd rather watch "Yankees Batting Practice Today" on YES. Now, that's exciting television indeed.<P ID="signature">______________

Isles and Dolanville have a long, long term agreement going back to the SportsChannel days that runs out sometime next decade. Not joking.

I'm surprised the Devils broke away from the YES deal even with the dissoultion of YankeeNet, doesn't surprise me, considering the iron fisted way the Devils run things
