FSR

Nothing better than promoting someone who left to work for a competitor on your stations website...

http://msn.foxsports.com/other/story/865321

I started listening to FSR on Sportstalk 980 when I was interning at WTOP in DC. That was the summer of 2001. The network has gone into the toilet. Van Earl was definately not a good fit, Stein was ok, but I can't take Farrell in the morning. I grew up in Philly and used to listen to him on WYSP at night. AT NIGHT. I can't take that voice in the morning. Not a good way to start the day.

Kiley & Booms were absolutely hilarious. I remember they were talking about having a "Chinaman's" chance and Booms insisted that the term came from Chinese immigrants who worked on the railroads and had to hang onto the sides of cliffs. HA! Ridiculous.

Ok, I'll stop rambling. My point is FSR, ESPN Radio, Sporting News Radio, I think they are all subpar. I'm not a fan of national sports talk. I don't care about what's going on at the Olympics. I don't care about womens tennis.

If you lived in the San Antonio market, where all the local hosts absolutely suck, you would be a bigger fan of national sports talk, believe me.

By the way, which national sports talk shows discuss fringe sports like women's tennis and the Olympics?

I've heard guests on different shows that are "extreme" Olympic athletes (snowboarding, whatever other crap they do) and I've heard different shows talk about fringe sports. The whole Michelle Wie thing annoyed the hell out of me. What do I care if a 16 year old girl is going to go pro? I don't care when 18 year old boys who play basketball go pro. Call me when Michelle Wie accomplishes something.

I think these national shows try to push different sports that nobody cares about. The NBA is in the crapper and ESPN pushes the hell out of it, because they broadcast a ton of games.

I guess my major beef is that everything has to be entertaining. I can't just get scores and analysis, I need to get it from some washed up actor like Mario Lopez. They have to let me know who Dean Kain picked in this weeks football games. I am tired of these networks not sticking to what we want to know, and that is the facts. OUR sports have been ruined ever since these corporations took over the airwaves. What does General Electric know about college football? Probably not much, but they DO know about the bottom line and what they have learned is that more "non sports" fans will watch if Kelly Clarkson is singing at halftime of the Superbowl, instead of giving us an in-depth look at what occured in the first half. Reggie White, one of the best defensive football players ever, was honored at halftime of the Eagles-Seahawks game on Monday night, but instead of seeing that, we saw Jimmy Kimmel for 60 seconds. That's NOT what a football fan cares about. I think most of us would have liked to see a tribute to a great man like the Minister of Defense. If I want "entertainment," I'll watch Access Hollywood.

AMEN BROTHER!

At one time print looked down on broadcast media because they would break stories while broadcast media simply would rely on what the print media wrote.

While certainly that's still true at a small AM station without a staff, it was becoming less and less true until . . .

ESPN decided they were the ENTERTAINMENT and Sports Programming Network.

Is there any more useless TV show than ESPN Hollywood?

The irony: that WAS what ESPN originally stood for when they first signed on in 1979!

Only in the 80's did "E" mean "eternal" in their imaging.
