Hey there "Pollitt"!
The lack of a format change, etc., has made for a quiet market.
The FM's are all plodding along, same old, same old. Gator owns country. WINK-FM can't settle on a format. Bob really needs to get new liners and drop that insipid delivery! And there is a big hole for something resembling Smooth Jazz. Dream 98.5 is missed.
On AM, the waste of wattage that is the 92.5/1240/1270 trimulcast continues. 1410 and 1660 "Timeless Cool" try to be a factor, but continue to stumble over themselves. Some of their best shows are the weekend brokered ones!
WKII has the ridiculously named "Prime Choice" (read: the most generic talent, music and content I have ever heard) on most of the time, with the only bright spot being Jeff Collins, their local midday guy. He's only on sporadically, but isn't afraid to play actual oldies instead of "Get Down Tonight" for the millionth time. Oh, he does play the expected crap, but the other ones he throws in are a treat. The afternoon guy "Hot Rod Todd", although he is local, sounds like he's on speed and helium, and you get the impression he really likes to listen to himself talk. Too bad Scott Dayton couldn't have survived the format shift. Just think of the heavyweight air talent mornings and mid-days. And I do mean heavyweight!! Pollitt knows Scott Dayton very well. Sees him daily, so he can express my condolences. As an ex-PD, etc., I think I know why SD didn't survive the format change, but that's the radio biz. Here today, Gone today. Burn that candle...
Oh yeah, the AM band. 770 still running sports and IBOC. I'm happy for them. 1440 is Spanish Christian. 1530 and 1580, I have to say, I pay no attention to. Likewise the "Big Crumb" (WCRM 1350). Also Spanish religion.
Did I leave anyone out? Oh yeah... 1200/1460 WINK news. Their best talent is John Conrad. The news format is OK but not great.
