Ft Myers Oldies 92.5 is gone!

Turned on my radio this morning only to find out that one of my favorite stations is gone! Oldies 92.5 has been turned into a simulcast of news/talk WINK AM & WNOG AM. Oh goody we now have three count em' three stations in the area now with the Beck/Limbo/Hannity blather all day long. Just what we needed.

Does anyone know what pushed this idea? I know FM talk is growing so I am sure that played into it. Now my question is what are the long term plans for 1240 and 1270? Will they end up flipping to some other format once people are use to the line up being on 92.5 or are the geniuses at Ft Myers/Meridian Broadcasting just going to leave the same format on three of their stations.

I now this is a staunchly conservative area and most people around here seem to march to the drum beat of Rush and Sean but is it really necessarily to have three stations with the same exact format.

Amen to that...
I predict a simulcast period followed by the AM's becoming something else.
Funny they didn't switch WINK-FM. That's the loser in their FM bunch.

I so look forward to hearing Mindy or Mandy or whatever roll out her boring, monotonous, pseudo neo-con crap every morning. YAY!

According to http://www.news-press.com/article/20090917/LIFESTYLES/90917036/1075:

Meridian managers expect the new FM broadcast to greatly increase the number of listeners tuning in to the talk schedule. “The radio ‘trimulcast’ presents a tremendous growth opportunity,” said Randy Marsh, the company’s director of programming...

Some on this board appear to think that after a "growth" on the FM band, they'll chuck the AM's or turn them into something else...

Question: Is PPM coming to SW Florida anytime soon?

If a station played oldies like WGRR 103.5 in Cincinnati. A great station with great ratings.

I'm surprized Atlanta based Cumulus has not tried to enter the FT. Myers market, buying FT Myers and Meridian Broadcasting, they have stations in Jacksonville, Melbourne, Pensacola, Tallahassee.

I thought Cumulus use to have stations in Jacksonville, I could been wrong unless they sold them.
