Ft. Pierce to lose an FM allotment?

WLDI-FM has an app. in to change the COL from Ft. Pierce to Juno Beach.....
Thoughts?

Well their city of license is in northern St. Lucie County, their transmitter is in northern Martin County, their studios are in West Palm Beach, and they market to 'The Palm Beaches'. Since Juno Beach is in northern Palm Beach County then perhaps they just wanted to get closer to where all of the action is (population, entertainment, etc.) to market their station a little better - hence the move (city-of-license-wise) some 45 miles to the south. Location, Location, Location !

(The Martin County stick is staying put.)

I'm curious what difference does this will really make? They just say the city name in 2 seconds in the Legal ID once an hour, instead of Ft. Pierce they'll say "Juno Beach, The Palm Beaches, Boca Raton. Do they bury the ID in the break?

They cut the cord with the Treasure Coast years ago when they moved the station down to West Palm. I can't remember if that was the WOVV days or the Star 95.5 era? It's all about "The Palm Beaches" with Wild and Gater.

Can't really blame 'em though.
- Palm Beach County = 1.3 million
- Martin + St. Lucie + Indian River = 520,000

I don't think they could move the stick anyway. The 102.3 / 103.1 stick off I-95 near Hobe Sound is only about 6-7 miles closer to WPB, but I think it's a lower tower. They can't really move south due to 95.7 in Miami. They already have a monster signal on that WTVX tower which puts their fringe from I-595 in Lauderdale northward to Cocoa Beach & Kissimmee.

Their stick is a good 115 miles (as the crow flies) from where I live and work here in Homestead, yet I can usually pick-up a decent signal from them in my car. Sometimes that 'decent' signal is of city-grade quality (depending on the time of the day and existing atmospheric conditions). Back when 95.7 FM was on the Channel 6 tower just north of Homestead picking-up 95.5 FM was non-existant. When 95.7 FM moved much further north 95.5 FM became reborn down here.

I used to be able to pick up WLDI just fine from Cooper City... they've got a pretty decent signal from where they are. I don't see any reason for them to move the stick. As long as where they are now covers the new COL (which it does), there's no reason for them to move anyway.

Are you kidding me, this is GREAT news for a station that has long suffered in the ratings b/c their signal barely covers their entire market...try picking up 95.5 in a building anywhere south of Linton Blvd! The problem was that the "fathers" in the previously-managed CC-Miami building didn't want 95.5 to hurt Y100 in the Broward ratings system. Now with the stick/signal moving south into Juno Beach, 95.5 will easily cover ALL of Palm Beach county...and OOPS if it gets lower into Broward County...it's about time someone gave Y100 a run for their money...even if it is their "little sister" to the north!

Congrats to the 95.5 gang...it's only about 9 years too late...

The real reason why the station is changing its city of license is because of the FCC license renewals of WLDI as well as WKGR.

Due to previous policy, renewal licenses were grandfathered in and Clear Channel, due to a technicality, was able to maintain the licenses of these two station even though they physically own more than their limit of stations in the Ft. Pierce-Stuart market. With the change, they can maintain ownership and still be under the ownership limits in Palm Beach. Does that make sense?
