Fugees “Killing Me Softly”(1996)

This song was popular despite not being released as a single therefore it was ineligible to chart on the Hot 100 but it was #2 on the Hot 100 airplay and peaked at #1 on the R&B airplay and it also crossed over to Urban AC radio because KJLH Los Angeles played it a lot in the spring/summer 1996. It also got heavy airplay on KKBT 92.3 The Beat and Power 106 during that time. Chime in people?

Peace,

Not sure what you're asking. This happens more often than people think. Radio stations have no commitment to air official singles. Currents-based stations used to be involved in single selection with labels. Labels would discuss potential singles with certain PDs. But that happens less often now. Billboard had a rule that a song has to be released as an official single to qualify for the Hot 100. Radio doesn't follow Billboard rules.

In addition to #2 in Airplay, this version was also #1 pop. This is a timeless song, previously recorded by Roberta Flack. Her version was tastefully produced by former radio DJ Joel Dorn, aka "the masked announcer."
