FUN 107 or PRO-FM?

Both stations sound great right now. music is tight, imaging is solid, and personalities are decent. Each of these stations are doing well in their own markets. But I would give the edge to FUN 107, because they have huge #'s in New Bedford & Fall River, and because of Fun 107's strength in Bristol County, Fun 107's Providence Market #'s are increasing, and now they are beating out several Providence stations in many demo's

You left out a bullet to the head as an option.

LOL.. only joking. I just miss the music from the past. Yep.. I'm getting old. I have little appreciation for most of what they play these days. Now it's WBRU for music in the car. At home I've got stations from all over the country streaming through my stereo. It's spoiled me. So many choices now. I Love it!

They gave me a job at Fun 107. One of the first batch of people hired when they started in 1989. But I had to quit before I even got on the air. Stupid Non compete with the piece of sh*t AM station in town.

This is like The Patriots VS Tennessee.... Fun 107 is one of the best CHR station in America . Pro-FM is Boring .

Sounds like this would be an opportunity for Citadel to finally put that 99.7 signal to good use. Why not yank it from the WPRO simulcast, and pair it up with Fun-107?

The two signals would compliment each other nicely in helping to flesh out Fun-107's coverage area. Besides, as has been stated before, 630 doesn't really need a simulcast partner anyway.

Makes lots of sense to me......which probably means it will never happen! ;)

But putting Fun 107 on 99.7 would first put more direct competition on co-owned 92 PRO-FM, and the reason why I think that Fun 107 does so well is because they really represent their local area. "Regionalizing" Fun 107 would be like jumping the shark. Don't do it. They should make 99.7 either a solid classic rocker or AAA station, or simulcasting Hot 106 wouldn't be a bad idea either.

Fun 107 has always been a perfect example of well done local radio. From the start, it's vision was to cover the New Bedford-Fall River market. WFHN is a class A signal broadcasting from Fairhaven (with an auxiliary site at UMass Dartmouth which was briefly their primary in the '90s). As class A, it would be next to impossible to re-focus on the bigger Providence market... sort of the same boat as WZRI/WKKB.

Personally, I am glad to see that a station on FM does serve the area (credit also to WJFD-FM). Up until 1989, WCTK (as WMYS) actually focused on NB-FR as well. I have a feeling that 'FHN partially played a roll in 'MYS's flip to country. Some of the original 'FHN promos would poke fun at 'MYS. I recall in it's first few years after the 1989 launch, they billed themselves as "Bristol County's Power Station" and in the late '90s, "South Coast's #1" after WCVB and The Standard-Times helped coin the region as "South Coast" (sometimes spelled Southcoast).

In regard to the format, it's a bit unfair to try and ask the question which is better; Pro-FM or Fun 107. Pro-FM is basically Mainstream/CHR, while Fun 107 is a hybrid Mainstream/Rhythmic (also varies slightly by daypart). However, if you compare the two in regard to personalities and the amount of live and local content versus voicetracking, I would say that Fun 107 takes the award. Again since it's start, they have always been ahead in starting the careers of several personalities, and have always had a good selection of weekend talent (in fact, I was one of them from 2002-2004, however my opinions here are unbiased).

Anyway, that's my 2¢ for what it's worth.`:)

Simulcast HOT 106 on 99.7, the 106.3 signal is so mediocre

That still does not solve the reception problem in Johnston and Providence near the WWLI (105.1) tower on Neutaconkanut Hill. 99.7 also has a poor signal in that area. Reception of 106.3 is better in much of southern RI than it is in parts of Providence. Hot 106 needs a translator for the Providence area more than they need one for southern RI.

Also, I like Fun 107 better than 92 PRO FM because Fun is more rhythmic, more dance music, less rock.
