Fun 107's Erica Kay leaving

Well kudos if that's the case.Nice to see some weekenders do it to actually make a career out of it as opposed to permanent part time which goes nowhere.

I think I was reading somewhere that she had an interview somewhere in Pennsylvania last week and she was getting flown down to Florida this week for an interview there...I don't know if anything happend with that. Anyways, if she does leave its gonna be a bummer becuase she was definately a good one on FUN!

I'm not saying this just because I know you read this board and post here but you're good. You've got more personality than most full timers in even bigger markets. Good luck and I'm glad you're getting serious about making a career out of it.

congrats! make sure to tan-up that pasty-white skin of yours! LOL :D

Congrats Erica. I totally agree with everyone's praise. You are someone who "gets it" in radio. You do a great job relating with your audience, and it shows that you do the work prepping for your shifts. New England's loss... Fun is still the best CHR in Mass IMHO.

thanks...if I can give one piece of advice....

People are going to give you constructive criticism..it's a fact of life when you do your airchecks or share/send them out...It's the straight out negative feedback that you need to put aside...I've been told "you are not ready for weekends in Providence"...you take that feedback, smile, thank them and walk out the door and know that you never want to work at a station that can't understand the "personality" part of on-air. When I was putting together my most recent demo, I shared it with people who told me "take this out...take that out..PDs don't want to hear that...that's a bit too much erica"...I actually took time contemplating deciding on whether or not to change it...came really close...then I said screw it...my demo is a sample of who I really am..and if someone doesn't like it, well, then they won't call me...the most recent response I have received has been somewhat overwhelming..I was lucky to hear and interview at a station in Pennsylvania...called from two Indiana PDs...got an email from a station manager in LA who said it was fantastic, and I didn't even send my stuff there! Someone from North Carolina called today...I have stopped looking for full-time at the moment and believe that I have found a great place, with great people and will have a blast, being able to be myself.

If someone is trying to limit your personality, and it just doesn't feel right inside, realize that there is someone, somewhere else that may like it. Oh ya,,and be willing to pack up your U-Haul at the same time :)

Not ready for weekends in Providence? Have you listened around to weekends in Providence? Is there something I'm missing there? I didn't know the bar was so high. I hear full timers in Providence that might not be ready for weekends in Providence. You're probably right when you talk about the personality end of it. After morning drive Providence is on cruise control with a couple of exceptions like Charles and Robby Bridges. It's best to take the market for what it is. Lazy stations with diminishing numbers of on air people. You did the right thing. It is possible to do personality radio without sounding like you're off in a different direction than the rest of the staff. If you want a market where all the jocks talk about is what was on TV last night, which rock star bought a villa in France, and blah blah then Providence is where to be. Celebrity gossip that's a week old and human interest stories out of Idaho is the norm here. If some dynamic major market quality jock applied in this market and didn't care about the shift or money the average PD would yawn and put an intern on.

Oh I left out Quinn and Cantara as people actually putting out a creative product like'em or not

"You are not ready for weekends in Providence" is a totally tactless comment. It might be appropo for someone applying with no experience but even then it would depend how the PD delivered the news. In your case it just isn't the right kind of feedback aside from being out & out wrong anyway. I've had PDs say things like "you wouldn't be right for the station" or something similar, which is fine & something any jock can understand. At least a couple of PDs in Providence I'm familiar with go back to the day before voice tracking when in a pinch anyone with vocal chords was ready for weekends in Providence if he was ready to drop everything & bail the station out when there was nobody else available. Too many jocks take not getting a job personal in the first place without having to hear tactless comments that imply they're applying for stations out of their league, especially when it's not the case. You're better off not even publicly saying who told you that but write him off. You did do the right thing. Around here it's either play the waiting game (and that's a long wait) or pack your bags. If you're serious about things you'll pack your bags. Providence will continue dropping in rank per Arbitron while you're away & if there comes a point when you want to move back you probably wouldn't be enthused about the market anyway.

Erica sent me her demo and I have to tell you that she sounds like major market material. I've lived in both New York and LA. There is not a noticeable difference between Erica and those talents in bigger cities. Her personality really comes through and she is more than capable to play with the big boys. Anyone who told her that she isn't was probably from the same family that told Howard Stern he would never be a success on the air. Some people just couldn't be any more wrong.

I don't work for FUN. They can't afford me?....LOL BOY, am I impressed...lol

Thought I would have to wait until Wednesday at 5pm, but it's a official...Z96 mornings!!! boy was that hard keeping it a secret!

as far as the comments about a loss for the stations up here..I guess absence makes the heart grow fonder
