For those old enough to recall station promotional albums, someone brought me a cool one last week. KFJZ 1270, circa 1973 or so...pink cover...and vintage photos on the back of George Erwin, Larry Shannon, Dave Tucker, Mark Stevens, et al.

What a blast. Now if I could just find a record crate from Peaches, some jeans from Henry's, a haircut at TCU Unisex, and a fake ID for I Gotcha.

I have the Peaches record crate but it's full of unplayed LP's from my long lost youth. Bought it at the store on Camp Bowie Blvd. after dinner at Crystal's Pizza.<P ID="signature">______________

I have A peaches record crate,KLIF's Album from 1969 featuring Mike Selden,Cuzzin Lenny,a KVIL magic Ticket that went unclaimed and a RandyRobbin's
" I love You Dallas" Party Tshirt from KLIF.

Re: I Gotcha

It was a nightclub on Camp Bowie, right next door to the Speakeasy. What a place. On the same road as and west of The Pink Elephant, Quick Draw (best sandwiches, cold beer, and pool tables ever), and others.

And the phrase every deejay appearance promo had to contain was "jocks are compensated." I always wondered what that meant. In fact, given today's business models, I still do.

Just looking at the LP again. Pressed by Phoenix Records, produced by Buzz Curtis...featuring Tony Joe White, Righteous Brothers, Tommy James and others. Not a scratch on the vinyl at all. Lee Randall, George Moffitt, Curtis Pierce, and Robert Mitchell are also pictured.

Aww Lee Randall! He was a superb PD at KTSA -San Antonio back in 1973.

I grew up listening to Lee Randall on KTSA. Lee was a hell of a PD. He gave me my first shot at Morning Drive on KTFM in 1980 at the young age of 24. He has a glass eye and one time pulled it out and cleaned it in front of me :)

Actually about 1970. And I believe that was Danny Moffat, not George Moffitt, in the photo. Danny went on to KAFM and did traffic for WBAP a few years back. I have the same album, too, but not anywhere near the shape yours is in! Congrats on finding such a classic!

And about ten little 45 crates from Peaches hold all my singles from oh-so-long ago.

John's Jeans, LP Goodbuy and Burstein-Applebee were my favorites. Nightlife? Study Hall and Travis Street Electric Company.

Does anybody remember UP YOUR ALLEY at north park mall? My wife worked there. We lived off of Park ln back in 1977-78

When i did 10-2 at night on KLIF in 1977 i did a remote at a brand new mall out in the sticks off of 635. This mall was in the middle of woods only. Hardly anything was built up then. Know which mall? When i went to work at ABC RADIO NETWORKS in 92 a bunch of us went to lunch at burger king and i asked everyone where is the -----------mall was, they said right across the street. I didn't even reconize it there were so many buldings and highrises around it. Same thing with PLANO. I remember in 1976 going down central to plano. Nothing but country. I was on my way to this CB store to buy a CB and linear Amplifier so i could be as powerful as Cuzzin Linnie's CB. Cuz used to relieve me at 2am and he would key up that cb right under the KLIF control room. He would bleed all over those huge am speakers!

Also back then even the evening dj's had there own newsman. Mine was Mike Snyder (ch.5 anchor) I've got some wild airchecks of me and him doing some bits.
Themz were the dayz!!

JOCKS ARE COMPENSATED

Actually, that line came from an FCC fine levied on WBAP.
I may be off on a few details but as I recall DON THOMPSON at WBAP was doing personal appearances and mentioning them on the air without the client paying for those mentions and without WBAP logging them as commercial matter. The FCC fined them for not clearly defining that the personal appearance was a PAID appearance and required to be logged as such (back when such details were really picky). From then on and for a long time, stations would add that tag "jocks are compensated" for appearances.

Someone else may have better details and particulars, but as I recall the story was somewhat along those lines.

KRLD News Updates on KLUV

This reminds me of the current KLUV news updates from "the KRLD news room."

Since both radio stations are now in the same building, wouldn't it be cool if you could do something like this again today, and the KLUV DJ and KRLD announcer could interact throughout the entire day, perhaps sharing a laugh or two?

I realize that there are logistics that might preclude the KRLD person from having to go back and forth between studios all day. However, with Internet cameras, you could easily get the same effect as if the news guy from KRLD was right on the other side of the glass in the KLUV news studio.

In this way, there could be a little more personality and humor throughout the day, rather than that KRLD news update having the "straight sell" seriousness that it currently has.

WHAT--- CROSS PROMOTE THE STATIONS???? WHAT A CONCEPT!!!!!!! Technically speaking and I am sure that Jody would agree with me on this, you don't have to be looking at the person in the same room or across the glass to do exactly what you were suggesting! Just listen, and make it where KLUV and KRLD cross promote each other, and why couldn't that be done with all the CBS Radio Group? it would be simple as that, and let 1080 be the driving force for that promotion, and let the music stations promote KRLD for breaking News and Weather! what a concept!

Just a thought!

Re: Jocks, Thompson, Moffitt

Oh , for Pete's sake. Of course it's Danny Moffitt. This is why I have glasses.

As for "jocks are compensated", that's too funny. I worked for Don at KPAR in Granbury. In fact, I think he fired me. Not sure of that...but I do have vivid images of this dapper big-city guy in a sports car wheeling into the studio parking lot of "Lake Country Radio", spraying gravel everywhere and jumping out dripping gold with the engine still running. We were going to win big, my friend!

I think someone stores hay in that building now.

Hey,
I got an old KLIF album a couple of weeks ago at a flea market for
$2.
