Fun topic

If you could start a station in Philadelphia on any frequency, what format would you start and what programming would you have? (It's just for fun, not about competing or money)

I'd have Active Rock on 94.1, less chicken rock and newer than WMMR

Sample playlist

Seether- Tonight
Linkin Park- Papercut
Live- All Over You
Smashing Pumpkins- Bullet with Butterfly wings
Evanescence- Bring Me to Life
The Ramones- Blitzkrieg Bop
Within Temptation- In the Middle of the Night
Lacuna Coil- Enjoy the Silence
The Clash- Should I Stay or Should I Go
Drowning Pool- Bodies
The Donnas- Take It Off

I'd get the Phillies and Flyers radio deal

Weekdays
5-11 am Commercial Free Rock Mornings
11am-6pm Jockless Rock
6-7 pm Flyers Talk (during Hockey season)
Phillies Talk (during Baseball season)
7pm- 5am Jockless Rock

All jockless rock on weekends

HD channels

94.1 HD2 Flyers 24/7
94.1 HD3 The Rock You Grew Up With

I disagree. Music is music. If radio only had music what would make a radio station a radio station? Camersials and promo's only? or the sound processing.

Jockless sucks IMO.
Me, too. I have problems with the HDs as a result of them being jockless. Radio without a personality is like listening to somebody else's iPod.

I would rather hear a station run jockless than have someone from Los Angeles or NY voice tracking and trying to sound local.

That is a tough one, but I would still like a live person there.

VT is nothing new, In the 70's, L.A's 1020 KTNQ "10-Q" had their Top-40 jocks on AM, doing the Country station on 97.1 KGBS in a process very similar to today's VT-ing.

So you'd flip a station, likely meaning you'd can the previous air staff, and then you would have no new airstaff, meaning the creation of zero jobs in a bad economy? So you're creating a Clear Channel station...

This is a fun topic, not about creating jobs. It's just what you would want it to be. If I owned a rock station and was trying to make money, I wouldn't even play some of the artists in the sample playlist. If I did buy 94.1 and start an Active Rock format, I would hire WYSP's airstaff from the last few years.
