I see you haven't been to Mount Vernon lately.....
The Spanish speaking population of that city ALONE is enough to illustrate my point. Plus the outlying farming areas in Snohomish, Skagit and Whatcom Counties are enough to justify a full power Spanish station that covers the ENTIRE Puget Sound area - NOT just the South End.
I don't know where you got your information, but if you ask anyone in this area, you may be surprised. But really, don't just take my word for it Kelly. Please. Come visit Skagit County at least and SEE what I am talking about....
Perhaps the industry ignores everything north of Everett. Fine. That shows YOU just how accurate this information you're feeding me is. And like I always wondered, WHO gets these books/PPMs, HOW do they get them, and what are the qualifying factors? If the industry deliberately ignores this area, then how can you say YOUR data on the demographic makeup of Northwest Washington is accurate?
If 6% is the number of Latinos in the South End enough to justify 3 radio stations for them, you might consider the Northwest Washington area has a MINIMUM of 10%. And that's a conservative estimate. Ask anyone here-many will say it's more-FAR MORE.
But don't stop there. Talk to the people who research Latino demographics in the Northwest (If Arbitron won't do it, somebody has to.) They may have some startling information for you.
It gets even MORE interesting: KVOS-TV may flip to Telemundo or another Spanish network if the sale to LK Station Group LLC (along with KFTY-TV, Santa Rosa) goes through. LK owns several Spanish TV stations. If they did not see the potential for KVOS as a Spanish outlet, I doubt they'd even consider KVOS as part of the package and stuck only with KFTY. And KVOS is a POWERHOUSE TV signal and with Canadian cable grids moving KVOS further and further down to make way for their own new stations, the writing is on the wall....
See the hard data from LOCAL sources here. And with the concentration in this area, consider the fact it's the fastest growing demographic in America (go through your house and see how many things from food to household cleaning products have their labels in both English AND Spanish) and then my point becomes MUCH clearer. Period.
When numbers fail, seeing is believing....
