FUNKYTOWN 93.7 HD 2 IS WAY BETTER, 100% BETTER THAN HOT 96.9

:-[ Sorry to say, but, "Funkytown 93.7 HD2" is 100% better than "Hot 96.9" For the name "HOT" The average listenner expects to hear Urban Music, not Adelle music.
They are repeating most of their music (example between 7pm-Midnight) you hear the same Rihanna Song like 3 times. That's a lot.
Program Management should know about (FMQB Magazine-FMQB.COm) correct? The music charts are right there (Put the Computer Mouse on "Mediabase 24/7" .
There's about 40 songs on those charts. That's about ??? Three Hours of music there, (Currently with no commercials, that's about two hours of music)
Now, look on the Urban AC Charts, same place under "Mediabase 24/7"
Same thing, there's about 40 songs there as well, (now, some may be the same as the Urban, maybe two-three songs) But still.
If "HOT 96.9" adds Urban AC to what they are playing now, it won't be as repetive, and will be much better than it is now. I understand it's a Rhythmic AC station, but considering it's called "HOT" and they have the Strongest signal in town for listenners in (South End, Dorchester, Mattapan, and Roxbury) they should consider adding Urban AC to their music.

Unless "HOT 96.9" doesn't do that, at the current moment, I'd say, "Funkytown 93.7 HD2" is 100% better. Trust me on that!!

In closing, I advise "HOT 96.9" Program Management that they better think this over, and consider adding New Urban AC music to their station.
In their next meeting, they will all look at each other and say, "You know what, this time, Lauro Jr is right, we (are) going to consider this right now."

Lauro, it seems that "Cadillac" has no intention of trying anything different from what he did with the Boston stations, when he was with CC. Providing staid, comfortable and safe music for the masses appears to be the order of the day, and it works -- unfortunately. However, I'm curious as to how these gurus come to their conclusion, regarding music choices. The majority of people I talk to are looking for the same variety of urban music that other cities offer, yet we continue to get the Lawrence Welk version of hip-hop and r&b......who are they talking to when they research? What's so hard about mirroring what WZMX does in CT, I ask? "Just build it, and they will come!" Hopefully, the person leading the Boston cluster of CC will be more receptive to changing what has become the norm for urban radio in Boston.

That's not where the money is, Lauro. I'm sure they don't like any listeners being siphoned off by a pirate operation but they've got to keep their station on the presets of listeners in the suburbs, too, where the pirate is a non-factor. Other than WILD, there's no real legacy of pure urban or pure urban AC in the Boston market. Black music has always been watered down, both on rhythmic formats now and on Top 40 (where a lot of it was avoided) back in the day. It's what the listener in the market has always expected and you're not going to get drastic change in this fiscally conservative, profit-margin-driven age of broadcasting. Unless you can honestly say to the top brass at General Media or Clear Channel, "Look, you're guaranteed to gain "x" number of listeners in all key demographics and pick up "y" number of dollars in additional ad billing if you start playing previously unplayed artists X, Y and Z," you're out of luck.

It's been mentioned elsewhere in this forum that Hot 93.7 in Hartford, while a ratings winner with a "blacker" take on urban than is heard in Boston, struggles to attract ad dollars commensurate with its ratings. I don't think General Media is looking at that as something it wants to emulate in Boston.

“Lauro Jr”? You mean there is a Sr? ::)

Well, as long as there isn’t a “Lauro III”!

We need Muppet Radio and we need it on FM! Just start up a new station on 104.4 and put the antenna on top of the Prudential skyscraper! Oh, and make it 100,000 WATTS so I can hear it up in my friend’s house in Portland Maine!
:D :D :D

First you pick your target audience then you program for that. If you pick up stuff on the edges or 6 and up stuff that's all gravy. But out of the gate they have a target and that is what they are researching and who they plan to sell advertising too. From what I hear my guess is the target audience for 96.9 is women and older than 107.9 and 94.5 are aimed at now. When you are comparing these other stations you hear in other markets and questioning the differences my guess is your missing who they were aimed at. Possibly they were even looking for men? All them will accept the extra they get but they never loose sight of who they are trying to lock up and own.

If you like funkytown is better. Then just listen to funkytown. They do play to much Rhianna, Adele and THIS GIRL IS ON FIYAHH!!!! But I like the direction they are going. Boston is a rhythmic town always has been. It's brand new give it time Lauro.

I guess it's a matter of taste. I was listening to Funkytown the other night and found Hot 96.9 to be better.

Although 96,9 needs to seriously expand their playlist and never play "Girl on Fire" again.

Agreed, Hot 96.9 sounds better to me also. I can't hear Biggie AND MJ AND Mark Morrison on Funkytown ;D

It will be interesting to see who survives with all of these CHRs or close to CHRs. Amp, Kiss, Jamn, the Evolution, Mix, and Hot are all a little different (well, Kiss and Amp not) but there's a lot of crossover. I think the winners will be Kiss and Hot. I don't think Amp and Mix will make it for the long haul. I think Jamn will be more Urban or hip-hop. The think the Evolution will never be a powerhouse but if CC doesn't expect a lot out of it, then it will survive.

I think the interesting thing about Evolution, is that a lot of it's listeners seem to be ex fnx zealots. I think that bodes well for that station going forward. I think Mix is the one that's going to have some trouble.
