furman = car wreck

wow.... furman's show has gone waaaaay downhill in recent weeks. flipped on the radio around 5:30ish to hear him shilling some kind of financial service with a guy that could have been bob brinker. followed by a segment with a cute-sounding girl talking sports injuries. meanwhile, i really appreciate what a little competition is doing over at Homer. Mo and Doyle are finding their rhythm. tim lewis is a horrible as ever, though. anyway, back to furman....i am wondering if the countdown has started with him. i'm hearing things about SuperTalk getting serious with the 2AGs, too. yikes.

muppet...how can you say you hate the Angry Guys in one breath, then compliment the Mo & Doyle show in another? Is it just me or does it sound like Mo & Doyle and trying out to the be "The NEW Angry Guys?" Sounds like a bad imitation.

Talk Radio just sounds better on AM.

Besides that, if I'm not in the car, its too much trouble to both switch the radio from am to fm AND turn the dial. I'll turn the dial from 550 to 700 because I don't have to hunt for the signal. But any further than that...I need more incentive.

Rumor is WPFB is getting nervous. WFTK is behind the Middletown station in the latest trends. And how are they going to sell Denny McKeown when the weekends Rank #27! Oh. Sorry. Tied for #27 with WFCJ-FM (wherever that station is).

I can hear Denny saying, "Karrie's Kids" now.

Trust no one at the 895.

WFCJ is the fire and brimstone bible teaching station in Dayton.

Pretty sad that 96.5 has gone that far down hill, but then again, how can you compete such a competitive talk market like Cincinnati? WLW is local and has been #1 for years, WKRC has all the syndicated heavy-hitters, and WSAI has some moderately popular talkers. Besides Furman, what does WFTK really got going for it?

Well, it's got ilovescotch to point out all of the flaws so that they can be fixed... that's gotta count for something. 8)

Wow, the real geniuses at work. I'm glad none of you are programing my radio station. You're judging after LESS than a year.

Is Mensa in town?

Unless WLW turns off the transmitter or 96.5 becomes EXTREMELY aggressive pulling in the proper talent WFTK will not be a factor in this market. Please, if you get a chance, take that to the bank.

I agree 100%. 96.5 needs strong Local talent. WLW can be hurt, but only if Cumulus has deep pockets and a commitment to develop a strong local programming schedule with few out of town shows.

I would love to see some local competition against WLW. If you ask me, the 9-12 slot is vulnerable right now as McConnell is pretty much a daytime version of the Truckin' Bozo.

Glad to see I got under you skin that much. Mission accomplished.

Your mission was to become the Little Boy Who Cried Wolf? ???

I would like to see Jeff Katz return to town. He's the own WCKY hired in 1994, then sold to Jacor the next day. His show was great. I know he then went to WIBC in Indianapolis, but then I lost him after that. I did a search tonight and he's on WBT in Charlotte, N.C.

Another candidate would be Wes Minter, formerly of WHIO in Dayton. I liked his show as well. I agree, 96.5 will have to do something in the "local" arena, besides Furman. Their satellite talkers are "C" level at best. The big names are on WKRC or WSAI. There's not much left.

FROM THE INDIANAPOLIS MESSAGE BOARD

To anyone who thinks that Clear Channel is bad, try working for Cumulus. I did... after three days I quit because it was already driving me crazy. They really do have corporate mandated playlists and other such crap going on. At least with CC we had some control over our stations... with Cumulus, you have none because everything (and I do mean everything) is decided by the suits in Atlanta.

How are things going at the 895? Nervous? Trusting anyone?

AND FROM TOM TAYLOR'S HOME PAGE ARTICLE

All mergers involve some clash of corporate cultures - like last year's Cumulus Media Partners takeover of Susquehanna, but Citadel/ABC should be especially intriguing. Cumulus boss Lew Dickey drily told an investors conference that Susquehanna "was more decentralized than our culture." That's an understatement.

Just trying to keep the 895 informed.

From my perspective, this Midwest dude sounds scared to death that Furman's on 96.5.

Maybe he should get a job at Cumulus and speak from experience, instead of parroting what he reads elsewhere? Whaddaya think Bandit?
