Further Demise Of WHJJ

If any more evidence were needed of the total demise of WHJJ.

No local news on the afternoon of the 4th of July. That is pathetic.
WPRO was staffed.

That speaks volumes about the difference.

Nobody listening is not a valid argument. I have no doubt that a lot of people actually listen on the holiday afternoon in their vehicles as they head for home.

And even if nobody were listening, its a positioning statement. There was always local news when Hess or Capilio was running the place.

You don't actually think you're gonna shame them into changing anything do you? Aren't hands tied there anyway when it comes to staffing and programming?

Then again, WHJJ is affiliated with Hot Air America!

I find it amusing that Geoff Charles is allowed to get away with ripping Air America and it's Host's Night after night.
Last night he said he was listening to Micheal Savage because he can't stand Air America.

Time for you guys to take a chill pill.....WHJJ is still here and its going to be still around...so get used to it...and quit whining...no local news for the afternoon is not a sign of fatality...give it a rest gentlemen....

The pendulum doth swing

Back in the period when WEAN, WPRO, and WJAR kicked over the network
soap opera traces and went with music it wasn't long before WPRO,
WICE (1290) and even WHIM (1110) were kicking WJAR's butt routinely.
(Remember, WHJJ is 920, as was WJAR). Somebody smartened up and went
with talk early on and WJAR gained ground; WICE followed and WPRO
captured the 12-year old audience as the prime rocker when rock
went through a brief period of being uncool. So, once more, the
pendulum has swung. Don't count on it staying stuck at one side;
it'll swing again. Maybe not in your lifetime or mine but swing
it will.

The thing that bugs me the most about WHJJ is that they can't commit to one or the other.

If they are going to go Air America, then go there...especially with the lack of talent (in my opinion) of their local people.

I liked Charles for a while, but only between songs (HJY).

They don't play Rhodes in full. Why bother having her, you lose something if she keeps her segments flowing. Give me all or nothing.

Once again, just my opinion here.

rumor has it that the pd over there doesnt want to have to pay anyone on holidays or that would mean comp days. isnt it really called "cheap channel?"

Can I remind you people that WPRO was not staffed during several major news breaking days this spring because the Red Sox were on??

This is just more WHJJ hate for NO REASON.

Re: Oh please ... this is ridiculous!

You would apparently be moving the deck chairs on the Titanic as it sank.

Loyalty is admirable. Blind loyalty is stupid at worst, naive at best.
In any case, your constant and vehement defense of a poor and deteriorating product has become tiresome.

You apparently have no frame of reference to the excellent standards this radio station once represented, and not all that long ago.

Sadly, blind loyalty with no regard for the past gives you no credibility.

Ive seen that phrase overused by those on the right on this board..is that the insult du jour....at least get a new whiny catch phrase...sheesh....

Ok, lets try that visa versa with WPRO....Jen and Brian's show is marginal, Steve Kass is tired and worn out, Rush is drug-addled and recycling his material for the last 5 years, Dan Yorke is hated by all on the pvd board, and I will not give Michael "self hating, conspiracy, angry beyond all angry" Savage Weiner any
respect.... so tell me that WPRO is so wonderful beyond anything...i think reasonable people would say that you like conservative radio....good for you....but you have no ability or evidence of your own outside of you and others on this board who point to the drop in 12+ ratings that occurred when WHJJ went to liberal radio....so all we have is your unsolicited and UNWANTED opinion. Your bleating as well as those of the other "I hate liberal radio" people is equally as tiresome as it's becoming offensive...im waiting for the moderators to actually do something about this but its only time for them to step in when the liberals fight back.

So your biggest beefs are with Springer, Franken, Rhodes, and Malloy, and a drop in ratings..10 hours..the rest of the lineup is not AAR.....the weekend is a mostly blend of local and other non AAR programming...so quit whining. You have WPRO just listen to it and leave the rest of us alone. Heck ill even give you the reprehensible Geoff Charles for free....hes no liberal.....

Knowing the middling to sorry quality of shows on WPRO, take a deep look in the mirror ....you might see that the emperor has no clothes.....and no credibility.
Even one of the WHJJ employees who is conservative reports that the station is doing fine....after the format change. Clear Channel is not going to flip WHJJ back....on 12+ so let it go...its over now...an alternative exists to conservative radio...and it wont change here in pvd.

Actually I think this guy's biggest beef is he's not on HJJ because it's obvious he once was.

Re: Oh please ... this is ridiculous!

Slow down hot shot. I could care less about the political bent of the talk programming.

My point is that at one time WHJJ had wall to wall LOCAL (from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. programming,) and a very credible news product. It now has neither!

It is too bad that you describe my opinions as unsolicited and unwanted. I could same the same about yours. But, I'm too open minded...I enjoy a spirited exchange of ideas and opinions, or is that too liberal a thing?

So while you are offended and waiting for the moderators "to do something," breath deeply, and take a hike. Come back when you are ready to discuss issues in a rational manner...with the adults.

I'm talking about local programming

I stand corrected on that comment of mine....i retract it....about unsolicited and unwanted comments....my beef is that you guys here are slamming WHJJ for no reason....except the ratings dip....the station is fine...
>

Lets not go overboard.i dont mind being wrong.. ill stand down on my earlier comment regarding your opinions...you certainly have a right to your opinion but this comment maybe be as much out of line as mine was....but lets call it squaresies...and move forward...

I still question why you guys hate WHJJ so much....? if its local programming that troubles you, then WHJJ still has Arlene and Geoff Charles, plus the left brain show on the weekends for local viewing. I am not an Arlene fan but would never want her to go away...i have posted that Id like to see her moved to mornings and say good bye to IMUS and leave drive time open... so that Randi rhodes could be better used...I dont like Geoff Charles but would not object to replacing him with another local personality....one that better fits the new WHJJ format. I wouldnt object to a local morning show either as long as Rachel Maddow is heard from 5am to 6am.

Regarding the news...well I dont have a deep WHJJ history but I have no objection to Bill George's reporting...and I like Kerri Rodrigues...so whats wrong with the news? or its it a volume of news issue?

No one seems to get that the majority of harsh criticism is rooted in having once been a part of the station and wanting the ol'days back. You can tell when some has constructive criicism and when someone has a personal issue.
