Further Proof That 92.5 Is Irrelevant...

... one of CC's own employees mistakenly thought it was an "AM station."

Here's a partial transcript of Mike Taylor's show, at around 6:30 PM CT on Friday:

Mike Taylor: ... here's your afternoon drive traffic with... oh, wait a minute, where the hell did Dingus go? ...

(John - a.k.a. "Dingus" - usually hits the button to play the traffic music bed. Producer Dawn informed Taylor that "somebody came to ask him to do something" for another station...)

Taylor: That's the beauty about working for Clear Channel. I'm not asked to -- you know, Mickey (his former employer in Dallas, ESPN Radio) would be mad if I were late to go to Jane (Bray)... Jane, you can't go yet, because I'm not going to go to you unless I have the sounder. Clear Channel gives me a lot more leeway than Mickey ever would, you know? ... (Dingus enters the room) What are you doin' to me, dude, you're killin' me, it's :30, where've ya been?

Dingus: I'm sorry, I'm sorry, I was helping somebody.

Taylor: Were you on the crapper?

Dingus: No, we're having some issues with another station and I'm over there...

Taylor: I don't have time for the other stations. You can get Merriman on that... Was it one of them FM stations?

Dingus: No.

Taylor: An AM one?

Dingus: Yeah. That "Patriot."

Taylor: That's on FM!

Dingus: Is it?

Taylor: Hell yeah, let Tony Trabato take care of that!

Dingus: All right, fine.

Taylor: "The Patriot" is on FM. That's the voice to... home of the Astros...

When one of the cluster's own employees thinks "92.5 The Patriot" is an "AM station," that's got to be embarrassing for the company.

If that went out over the air it's also proof of what I've maintained since Taylor started, he's an untalented, unprofessional amateur who must either a) work for pennies, b) be married to one of the big bosses daughters, or c) he's doing....well I'd rather not say what that may be.....

I doubt that Dingus has ever listened to The Patriot, nor would he have it on his presets. Being a newish employee, he's probably all of 22 and fresh out of college. Not exactly in the target market for a conservative talker.

Looks like it's time to bring back KSJL.

"But there's not enough African-Americans in SA lol!!!1!!" <--Just saved from anyone having to counter this statement. You're welcome.

92.5 had better numbers when it was Hot 92.5. They definitely should bring Hot back just fck with The Beat. ;)

I have worked with both these guys and I assure you they know their own cluster.

You took what they said literally. Clearly they were putting on a show for the microphone. However I could see how someone who do not know them personally could mistake that.

That's funny...Austin also has a station with the frequency 92.5 that isn't relevant.

KXXS is a small rimshot licensed to Elgin. But it has an application to change its COL to Sunset Valley and move its stick to West Lake Hills with the big boys... still a Class A... but with much better coverage of Austin than it has now.

Will it change formats when it gets into Austin or will it keep the same thing?

Interesting topic, for sure.

I am not as familiar with the Austin 92.5, so I did some digging. Fred's observations about the move to West Lake tower farm is correct, though the move is to be "highly confidential" according to the person that offered the info (are there secrets in radio?). They mentioned a late-summer/early fall launch had been suggested. I wouldn't be surprised to see 92.5 and 98.9 swap formats. Does anyone have any info regarding the tech logistics being completed on 92.5? Maybe this will be a pivotal piece in selling the BMP group that owns the station. Would a CHR on this signal make sense? Seems like the market could use some typical choices--CHR, country, classic hits--from a purely competitive point of view.

The Patriot is another story. The signal is actually quite large. However, it is centered so far south of San Antonio (isn't it actually licensed to Devine or Somerset?) that it'll never have the coverage needed. I am not sure that Travato has anything to do with programming this, as Peter Bolger is the talk expert and was likely given this hot potato when the "Outlaw" was removed. It's sad, as the "Outlaw" was a decent music choice, especially when I would head to the coast--I could typically listen from downtown SA most of the way to Corpus. Before the outlaw, the station was liberal/progressive talk. CC also made it hip hop and don't forget its long history as the landing spot for Urban AC KSJL.

I just think folks here in SA have the choices they want, and don't warm to changes or search new signals.

KXXS's application to the FCC is public information that is easily available @ the FCC website. I see nothing confidential about it.

Can anyone find the document from the FCC about KXXS moving? I can't seem to find it on the FCC website. The only thing mentioned is a 'minor adjustment to a CP.'

Anyone find anything else?

I expect a format change even before the move. Oldies just doesn't work in Austin.

I disagree, KKMJ had the Super Songs of the 70s running for 3 years straight 2008,2009, 2010, and early 2011 every weekend.

Plus BOB's 9 at 9 features a lot of 70s, 80s, and some 90s favorites on 103.5

Spirit 105.9's format however doesn't work in Austin, Houston or Dallas yes.

I wouldn't call it confidential, as alluded to earlier, since the application and a couple of agreements are a matter of record. This also isn't something new, as the deal has been taking shape for quite a while. One agreement would require the move the co-channel KBEY in Burnet: https://licensing.fcc.gov/cdbs/CDBS...?appn=101415075&qnum=5000&copynum=1&exhcnum=1

The other part of laying the groundwork is here, and it concerns a change in community of license that would allow KXXS to move: https://licensing.fcc.gov/cdbs/CDBS...?appn=101415075&qnum=5340&copynum=1&exhcnum=3

The complete application, dated 08/19/2009, is here: https://licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/w...xt=25&appn=101415075&formid=301&fac_num=19223

Note that this application, along with one to change the frequency of KBEY and to move KWNX 1260 to Elgin have yet to be approved, and in addition the Burnet station was recently sold. Despite that I understand the deal is still a "go."
