Furthest Philadelphia signals you have recieved

At my shore house, we are in a highrise and I could pick up WPEN-FM on my portable HD radio. I could also pick up WYSP, WBEN, and WMMR in HD for a few seconds, it went away but it was mostly clear. On AM, I was driving to Hershey and it sounded like WIP was locked in up until about lancaster, PA. Down the Shore, I can get WPEN-AM just like WIP which is clear there.

I recieved a 101.5 in Bensalem blockin out WKXW. I forget the calls, but I believe it was a Hot AC out of Verginya.

John,

Did you mean Vagina?

I listened to Harry and Whitey do a Phillies Game on 1210 when I was in Itasca IL (west of Chicago) and I picked up KYW in the Bahamas once. Can anyone recommend a powerful, pocket AM/FM radio? I am moving to Cape May and the radio stations there are either Right Wing Talk or Funeral Procession Music. Need my WIP and KYW. Thanks!

I went off topic with my earlier post. I know i can get WOGL and Ben-FM from at least the border of DE/MD. different direction b but I'm thinkin Philly FM's go at least out as far as quakertown.

My girlfriends response to pervertedness

Hmm 'vagina doesn't have a r, virgin doesn't have an inia, and neither are states with stations'
Go discuss that with a virgin female from virginia, and now that we're discussing women, can we get back to radio?

How would anyone know what you would like to discuss on this board when you can't spell one of the original 13 colonial states. I'm not saying I'm a Harvard grad, and we all make typos or sometimes not think thoroughly what were typing....but Verginya???? And you wanna' be in broadcasting? How can anyone respond to a 3rd grade level word spelled the way it was on the first post. At least you looked it up, tried to phonetically break it down and corrected it. Now we can all go back and discuss raydio.

Any of the pocket radios by Sangean are good. The DT400W has a very good AM section for a small portable. Plus a speaker. The little Sonys are also good. CCrane has them, but check the web for the best price.

Listen via cbsphilly.com on an iphone. You are not regularly going to get either of those stations in MA. You will get 1210 at night. My mom listens to WBZ-AM at home in S. Jersey as we're originally from MA. I tell her that she can listen 24/7 vis cbsboston.com. Or convert to a masshole and listen to WBZ-FM for sports and WBZ-AM for news. Because only the Sox, Pats, Celts, and Bruins matter.

Very funny. :D The 101.5 that was heard is WBQB in Fredericksburg, VA. Here in northern VA, I could hear WPHT 1210 at any time.

I've gotten WOGL and WMGK in West River, MD. I believe i've gotten a few others too, WPST and Ben-FM maybe? or was it WMMR and WSTW. Forget. Will have to check in June when i go there again.
What surprises me is that I could get WJBR rather then WIHT (isn't that the calls ? Hot 99.5 Washington DC Rhythmic Top40 from West River)
I believe that in NC, i've gotten WPHT week, and KYW and WPHT also in West River.
I had to really pull to get WPHT from here in The Villages, but it can be done. Unlistenable signel, but enough to get that its WPHT.
John

I also believe that in Allentown, most Phillly FM's are fringe and dont work in car, at least while its moving. That about right?
Much past quakertown as you head up the turnpike west tward Allentown etc you start losing Philly.

John

I think for the furthest Philly signals received will either be KYW or WPHT as FM just isn't going to get out like AM does. So I've listened to AM1210 WPHT in Atlanta Ga, and in Portsmouth, NH and enjoyed hearing the Phillies games and the hometown news and local spots, etc. at night. Sort of a taste of home. When you live away from the Philly/Wilmington/Trenton metro area, you realize how great this area is.

Of course with today's internet and streaming online, my guess is all of WPHT's talk programming, other than the Phils is carried online meaning anyone can listen now from anywhere in the world, just as they can do with most other radio stations in any market. I've listened to Radio Times on WHYY-FM and Marty Moss-Cohan (sp) gets quite a few callers from the mid west, and the west coast, New England, etc. Obviously they're listening online, but still it's so cool that today we can search out radio stations that we could never listen to here, like I listen to On Point, a talk show with Tom Ashbrook from WBUR in Boston, online. I've listened to a great Classic Country station KMPS from Seattle online. They play country from the 1950's through the 1990's. There are some great classical music stations, oldies stations, etc, that are just great ON line.

My guess is, some day, Arbitron will start rating online radio as well as terrestrial over the air radio, because with the I-phones, etc, those folks can listen to those online stations anywhere, so why settle for a mediocre Oldies station like WOGL when there's some great real Oldies stations online, or put up with country top 40 of WXTU when you can get 50 years of great country with KMPS online. Now folks like me who only can listen online with their desk top computer are limited, but someday the prices of all that will drop enough where even Luddites like me will get a Blackberry, I-phone, etc, and even listen online elsewhere when not at home or at work with my work computer. The real break though, where I believe OTA radio minus their online service, will be severely hurt is when you can go online with your radio in the car and get KMPS or WBUR in your car without the expense of buying a satellite radio. Maybe your I-phone or Blackberry would be able to plug into your car's sound system and with some sort of WIFI on the highways, etc, you'd be able to listen to your favorite online radio station. Talk about competition. Then old time radio as we know it will be in serious trouble unless they have something really good like the Phillies or Eagles, or make themselves into a really great Oldies or Country, or whatever station that would appeal to a nationwide audience. Granted, for local talk, news, weather, sports, the hometown stations are where its at and that makes them valuable too. So then when you travel for business, you can still hear the local talk, news/weather/sports/business report, etc, on your local station online even in your car. That's my spin.

I remember back in the mid 90's I had a little cube Sony Radio, and I can't remember the City,it wasn't a Philly signal, but it was one hour ahead. According to the DJ on this AM station, it was around 10:00pm, and I picked it up!

Up this way, halfway between Pottsville and Hazleton, I'm surprised at the listenable daytime signals of 990 and 690. The old WIBG 990 used to send it all southeast, and 690 wasn't near this power/signal in their WXUR days because of the newer tower setup.

In order, WPHT and KYW are 1 & 2, with WIP and WFIL next.

On FM, 106.1 and 104.5 over the years have been the most regular of the bunch. In the Long Island days, 104.5 (as WSNI) used to be a great tropo beacon on Long Island -- and easily the best PHL signal on a regular basis as well. 92.5 used to be the worst -- trope or otherwise.

A buddy of mine heard KYW in Hawaii which, when you take into account their NW lobe, makes some sense when that gets projected on a global projection. But he's far from an 'average listener', lol.

Last two times I was in Florida at the Folks' place, I managed to hear KYW on their driveway via a GE Superadio II. John Holcomb: Is this the same Villages you speak of? The Folks' address is a few houses in from DelMar Drive, on Bolivar Street.

Last weekend, with my portable insignia HD radio, I could get WYSP, WBEN, and WMMR on the beach clear in Ocean City
