Fusion 100.1 FM Is Now...

I really don't know how far out WBSR 1450 gets at night but 1230 gets out 10 miles with a useable signal (assuming you turn off all the electronics and move the radio around to find the sweet spot). 1450 runs the same power from a tower about 2-3 miles to the west (which should give 1450 coverage out to Perdido Key... should, I have no idea if it does.) Remember, it's easy for a graveyarder to cover the relatively compact "city" of Pensacola (south of I-10) and Pensacola Bay helps the signal get out to Gulf Breeze and Pensacola Beach (and I know this). Pace and Milton are SOL when it comes to 1450 at night. The 101.1 translator would turn WBSR into a money making machine. I don't know who's pulling the strings, but they appear to have just enough cash to do what needs to be done to introduce a new radio station to Pensacola... signing just the right sports teams... if they could just get that translator on the air... If I was in charge, I'd build out the translator and light it up on game nights without telling the FCC... but I'm a little crazy and I don't respect authority figures unless they carry a bigger gun than I do.

Has Fuzion 100.1 played the Temptations or Love and Rockets "Ball of Confusion"... well, about a dozen well known bands covered that song, so they could play different versions of it for at least an hour.

It does seem kinda strange that central Alabama has WLWI blasting Auburn football while most people that want to listen to a Tide game have to pull in a static filled rimshot.... Who carries Troy State and Alabama State football in the Capital city? I would expect all four teams to be on 50k-100k stations with solid coverage. The only tough decision would be whether ASU or TSU got the prime spot on Hot 105.7.

... y'all still have it better than we do in Pensacola. Unless your inside or south of the Pensacola city limits, AM coverage of Bama, FSU and Florida is not likely available. We do have Auburn on FM with Sunny 105.7 (and other stations for those north of I-10) but if we wind up with tropo conditions on Saturday... then who knows what we can pick up. Then there's LSU, it's always available everywhere on the big 870 WWL, but we don't have that many LSU fans here, if we do they keep their mouths shut... they might be afraid some Alabama fan that got himself a GED and has never even visited Tuscaloosa will poison their trees.

(Please respect a moment of silence and pour a sip on the curb for the Toomer's Corner Oaks)

Yes the east side of Montgomery might be able to get the Bama games after all.

If the right antenna is used and mounted properly, this station should do okay in Montgomery.

Several stations fall short of the city grade (according to maps) but have a good signal in Baldwin COunty

WRRX
WZEW
WAVH
WLVM (98.3)

The

Don't pay attention to those maps,.

Could you clarify this post?
There's no way WRRX reaches Mobile with co-channel 106.1 in Jackson. What does WLVM have to do with the price of milk in China? 98.3 is supposed to be changing over to a non-commercial license just like WQUA 102.1 did a few years back. It's interesting to note the high percentage of C2 and C3 radio stations in the 92.1-107.9 section of the Mobile/Pensacola FM dial that decided to become non-commercial. It's as if they can't compete with 100kw.

We're both local to Mobile. We both know the true coverage area of these stations and the extended coverage you can get with a rooftop yagi or really any type of antenna you can buy or build.

I'm in the "Ball of Confusion" just like my last post suggested I was headed to.
I hope Squidbillies comes on tonight.

Alabama State is on WVAS 90.7 FM.

Nice...

TSU and ASU both have much stronger Montgomery affiliates than Alabama. Something seems wrong with this picture.

I think he's just pointing out that some stations outperform their coverage maps as projected on Radio-Dislocator and the FCC. Personally I disagree with musiconradio.com's assesment of WZEW - I think it grossly underperforms compared to the coverage map. I'm in Foley and can't get a clean static-free signal of it anywhere it town. Blended mono reception on a good car radio is no problem, though. It's our Bama affiliate so unless you've got a good radio, that sliver of eastern Baldwin County is static-land. WBSR pretty much stops by day at the state line from what I've found, and ZEW east of Foley is really shoddy. I'm particularly cursed because I'm practically under WHEP's translator on 92.5 and it tends to wipe the entire 92.2-92.6 MHz segment clean on most of my radios. (WBSR at night? I lose it somewhere around Navy Blvd. to the west and Cervantes to the south. It's really shabby.)

In fact I'd say that WLVM and WRRX don't exactly outperform, either, in my experience. The only one that seems to "wow" me is WAVH.

I live in South Baldwin and drive everyday to Gulf Shores. I have no issues picking up the stations listed. Tropo might cause a issue once a month.

I dont consider indoor reception a issue, since most stations stream. In fact if you base your reception reports on a 70db signal. Several stations fail in the county and some in the metros.

I don't understand how a station being Non commercial impacts reception? Explain.

I am using coverage maps based on South Baldiwn county. Not the metros.

If you are within' a mile a the 92.5 translator. it will overload your radio. Anything out of the 70db range of stations will cause issues with reception plus or minus 200 MHZ or more.

You loose WBSR at night when you go south of Cervantes... but the antenna is located near the intersection of Cervantes St. and Pace Blvd.

WRRX may not "wow" you in Foley but I have heard it well out toward Ft. Morgan... not that I drive out that way often, but just ask ol' Rob... WRRX's signal travels almost to Mary Ester... even with 106.3, the Seabreeze not much further down Highway 98. I've always thought of it as one of the strongest class A's I've heard. I know the signal dies going north due to 105.9 in Atmore and 106.3 in Brewton.

You see here now, I didn't follow what your post was saying. I thought we were talking about College Football on the radio. WZEW and WAVH carry football. 98.3 will never carry SEC football because they can't play commercials on a non-commercial station. All 4 of the stations you mentioned have reception issues somewhere in the market, but as you pointed out... if I disconnect the antenna from my TV and hook it up to my radio I can pick up all those stations clearly.

The problem with short text messages... you type one thing and I read something else.

I've been kinda bashing WCSN's signal recently when in fact they have a very good signal over Pensacola. If Sunny wasn't so darn popular in South Baldwin, 105.7 would make for a killer Pensacola rimshot. It's the perfect signal to simulcast 92 Zew on... puts a very strong signal along Gulf Shores/Orange Beach/Perdido Key and puts a decent, seek stopping, signal into Pensacola/Pensacola Beach.

but alas Sunny is doing exactly what it needs to do and I doubt anyone could program and sell it better. Sad.

... and the other Pensacola rimshot that would make a good Zew simulcast is 95.7 in Navarre, but it's K-Love and also another commercial frequency that's been taken non-com for religious purposes. The only other realistic chance of Pensacola getting a Zew simulcast or it's own AAA/AOR station would require a translator or ONE Country station killing off the other.

All right, you made me get out my map. I'm thinking of Barrancas near Navy, not Cervantes.

Maybe one day I'll learn my way around Pensacola.

I hear that a lot from folks that aren't natives of Pensacola. They say it's a very difficult city to navigate and drive around. Besides the streets that have multiple names, I just don't see it. I don't get lost unless I'm in Beulah or the Pace/Milton area. Although I will admit Baldwin county is simple to navigate... 75% of the roads are laid out in a grid pattern. As long as you know which direction is north, you can't get lost over there.

Also, I happened to click on a link to www.wbsr.com a couple days ago. Looks like they've gotten into the Chinese prostitution business on the side. ;D

That WBSR link is a hoot, lol. The station's new address is http://www.espnpensacola.com/ - no Chinese prostituting there. At least none that I'm aware of. ;)
