I meant to post this a bit earlier. About a week before Donna Deegan’s walk for the cure, she sat down with WQIK’s John Scott for an interview. I actually heard the broadcast on sister WJGH one Sunday morning.
A discussion about breast cancer is probably not the most exciting or entertaining but it affects many families and sadly I can relate. Besides hearing about the latest in research, I was actually taken in by the chemistry that was so apparent between John & Donna. It was pure magic and it’s the stuff of a successful morning show.
In markets such as NYC, I’ve witnessed a number of “celebrities” over the years take to the air and those things hardly ever work. It takes a certain talent to be on the radio. I have to wonder if Donna would ever consider a co-host morning gig if she tires of working late. It’s something to think about.
IMHO John Scott demonstrates excellent interviewing skills, he’s a great listener and I just get the impression he loves his listeners. In another post I talked about how today listener impressions are not only made on the air but through social networking sites. A while back I heard John's interview with Alan Jackson. I thought for listeners who are big Alan Jackson fans, the first name camaraderie and rapport that came through between the two had to go over big with his audience.
John & Donna In The Morning. It has a nice ring to it for a way down the road radio show, doesn’t it? The other day Donna called Tony Mann and apparently she and lots of the First Coast News reporters have become big fans of Magic. Even in that short call, she sounded so good for radio. John Scott, kudos to you – you do an awesome job!
