Future morning changes

After the back and forth on the morning changes at WBHT, it got me thinking about what may happen to this market in the future.

How many more years will the long term morning shows stay in the market? How many more years will Rocky and Sue hold down mornings at KRZ? How long will Doc run Froggy's AM show? Daniels and Webster? Frankie on Magic?

Does anybody have any inside scoop as to what these folks may be planning in the near future? Do they have their jobs for as long as they want because regardless of ratings their names alone bring in $$?

What would you do next if you were the PD of any of these stations and the morning show said "at the end of this book, I'm leaving."

Syndication? Move a current jock to AM? Any favorite shows out there that you'd bring in?

Pure speculation, but in my opinion, fun speculation.

Have fun!

There are three or four "tiers" in the Arbitron ratings in this market. The top tier Magic, Rock 107, Froggy, KRZ and now the X. Then there's usually a 4 point drop off and then the second tier.

Why do you always focus on the morning shows that are doing well? If the numbers are there, why change it? The only difference I see is maybe adding a female co-host to Frankie, but that costs $$.

The second tier is where the action will be. Here's where the changes SHOULD happen, but then again there's $ involved.

Jen and AJ, now a syndicated show.
Keith on the Q, too new to call.
Moonshine on JR.
Jude on the River.

Those shows will be around as long as they want to be around, right?

That doesn't mean forever. What I was asking is when that day comes, where would you go when it comes to the next top tier morning shows.

What talents from this market gained morning show experience here or in other markets and could eventually return in a big way? Anybody?

What former NEPA jocks are currently doing mornings outside of the market? The area has seen some incredible talents. Where are they now? Would any ever come back?

I think that if anything, Citadel might decide to cut the old timers, and their higher salaries. Citadel wants to rid themselves of small and medium markets, and will slice and dice to attract new owners. It's worth noting that Entercom is also faced with challenges as their stock continues to plunge. You may start seeing cuts there as well.

Lite 94.3 will drop John Tesh in the morning, and replace with Bob & Tom...complete with Indiana commercials, traffic, and weather.

For proof, one should have been listening this morning. Made for some good and welcome listening. :D

AJ is quoted in the Weekender as saying these new changes are "an exciting time, not only for the station and staff, but for all of Northeast Pennyslvania." Yes, very exciting... when they fire your co-host and move you out of your premium spot, I'd have my heart racing too! Saying that the new Morning show will still be "100 percent local" because the commrcials, weather, and contests will be producted locally is a load of bull.. I guess that makes WARM 100% local because the news, weather, and commercials are all local too? AJ, nice way of being the good corporate guy by taking your demotion and the demolition of the morning slot on BHT and trying to make it sound like an improvement. By the way when is it not 100% local???? When they accidently slip in the weather from where it's being braodcast? I'm sure it will sound 100% local too... how much will they talk about the snowstorm, the Penguins, WB-SCR Yankees? 100% local... ha!

Well that's the whole gist of this thread isn't it? Bob & Tom have been here before. Attracted zero attention and faded out. Same for Stern, same for Imus, Opie & Anthony, and now Kidd Kraddick at 'BHT? Purely a cost-cutting move, a good alternative to just running an album of organ reveries (though that would be slightly cheaper.)

O&A were never given a chance to succeed, as they were on for all of 3 months before getting fired nationally for the church thing.

As for Stern... Well, a Bear billboard here and there would've been nice. I would've even done the hacky disc jockey thing and slept on the f***ing thing for a few nights.

Our consultant used to come to town, and the first thing he'd say to us is, "I don't even know what I'm doing here. There's absolutely NOTHING that needs to be changed about this station, except maybe the company could, I don't know, ummmm, maybe ADVERTISE it every once in a while?"

Yeah, I know.... I'm the bald, old, former H.S. football player who never left town, still sitting at the bar with my old varsity jacket on, talking about that time I ran 87 yards for the game-winning touchdown. Deal with it :p
