Future of CHR?

I think we're almost there, but is it conceivable we could see a CHR become what I would call... "Hollywood Radio?"
Line up would be:
All times Eastern:
6-10, We start with the Glits and Glammar of New York City with Elvis Duran.
10-2, Then we move you out to LA with On Air with Ryan Seacrest
2-7, local/regional afternoon show?
7-midnight, more from Hollywood with Billy Bush.
Thoughts?

I guess we should be grateful that Donny Osmond and John Tesh aren't on CHRs.

Whether it's a Hollywood name or a Clear Channel Prem Choice host, it's irrelevant IMO. Unless you're lucky enough to have a local host for your local CHR, then the host is just a mouth that as a listener I don't identify with. A computerized bot would serve the same function just as well.

The first question I would ask is: Are you an 18-34 year old female? Even if you are, you're on these boards, which makes you an example of what is NOT the typical listener.

If you fit the demo (HIGHLY important), not being able to identify with a personality is a result of a lack of good content (well, actually...RELEVANT content), not where they're doing the show from. You don't "relate" to a host because they're in the same city as you are, as evidenced by the majority of local jocks that suck out loud, spitting generic breaks that mean nothing to their audience.

No, I'm not in the target demographic so I understand that what I like in a CHR doesn’t matter.

Gladly I'm old enough to remember CHR radio of years past when the DJ was more local and would actually mention the town I live in or some local event that I could relate to. That's what I meant by relevancy. I'd be grateful to listen to a "sucky" local host versus a Hollywood name.

And it's in that which makes you less of a typical listener, more so than anything related to your demo. The world is at our fingertips now...people don't consume information within their four walls or city limits anymore. Is that stuff important? Of course! But to suggest that a terrible local host that happens to be in the same town and talks about practically nothing is going to be chosen over a host that talks about a ton of content relevant to your audience, but happens to be located in a different market, is just silly.

Do you think national TV hosts (like Oprah, Ellen, Jon Stewart, Letterman, Leno, Conan, and so on) or even national radio hosts (like Steve Harvey, Delilah, John Tesh, etc) find success because of anything related to their location? They're audience is into them because of the content of their shows. It's relevant to them. It's the same reason why Elvis Duran, as an example, is finding success. It has NOTHING to do with him being based in NY. If you'd like to aircheck him and pick apart his content and point out to me why he's not talking about things relevant to his audience, then c'mon. Let's go do that. But I repeat: It has nothing to do with his show being based in NYC, and his audience doesn't care that he is.

Glits and Glammar = quality

See the above. It's time to get our collective heads out of the sand and start giving more credit to the audience. They're more sophisticated than they used to be, and aren't fooled by content-less "live and local" anymore. Make no mistake, I've said this in other posts, but great local talent is a commodity we should strive for. But local for the sake of local means nothing. It has to be great for local to cut through.

I hear ya. But, I am not in the demo, and as pointed out above, that's what matters. I just thought it'd be a neat topic of discussion

I listen to Seacrest occasionally in Indianapolis (WZPL, afternoons) and think if another CHR or Adult CHR had a local afternoon show that could dish hollywood dirt and get interviews like a morning show...all while talking "Indy,"...you know there is a little race here this month that Seacrest probably won't even mention once...it would be huge! But that requires $ and ultimately, it is cheaper to have a "WZPL Hollywood Studio".
